Not happy with using the bumper repair stuff on the side windows. It seemed like it was working, but it needs primed with hi-build to be usable.

I'm gonna re-do this one since it looks like a**.

Maybe I was a bit too quick to give up on the window repair. I sanded it again and used just a bit more filler and it looks pretty good after paint this time.

I am still working on getting the passenger door flat.

Got sanding on the filler in the back bumper cover. Just need to flatten the big smear on the top side and I can primer it.

Wow. That 1/4 window frame did come out better! Did you just sand down the bumper putty you added and paint it?

The bumper looks fantastic too. I suppose you have to include some paint additive to make it pliable on the plastic parts (front and rear bumper covers)? Also, does the 2K primer have to have the additive, or you using some other primer on the plastic parts?

Yep, just sanded it down, used a little bit more 3M epoxy to fill some pinholes and re-sprayed it with SEM trim paint. It's amazing how much better it looks now, isn't it?

I'm actually debating right now what to use. I may start a thread to ask for guidance. I used flex additive in the past on the Porsche bumper and it came out nice. You'll get people who swear that you have to use it, and others who believe just as strongly that you don't.

My initial thought is to use epoxy basecoat followed by as much 2k as needed for flattening. Wet sand with 400 and shoot, adding flex additive to base and clear.

Here's what she looks like this morning.

Driver's door ready for paint after a final prime and sand.

Rear bumper looking good in primer before sanding.

Passengers door getting nice above the turn, just need some filler above the hip line in a few places.

Everything looks great! It's hard to tell in the photos that everything is straight. But it looks good from here. :)

I know.

It's kind of hard to post progress pics when I have to have my face 10 inches from my work and catch the light correctly to see what I'm working on.

here's the thing. If I show a pic like the drivers door and it has a uniform color, then it's probably pretty straight.

On the other hand, the door on the passengers side has been blocked the same way as door #1, yet has bondo, metal, (high) and dark spots (low) showing. I need to re-smear the dark spots and block sand until I think I am close to flat. Then I'll prime it once more and block sand until it is truly flat enough to continue on to something else.

The passenger door is injured in a couple places down it's length. That makes it more work than the drivers door.

Bumper work looks pretty good, if I say so myself. :D

The issue now is deciding where to call it quits and get paint on it. I am not doing a Jerry job where I won't settle for less than perfect. I just want to end up with a nice presentable job that will not embarrass me, yet not spend so much detail time that I won't want to park up near the front door at Walgreen's.

Durable and good looking.

on those high spots on the door you need to just tap them a little with a body hammer, then you dont have to use as much filler.

I am going to slap a couple of those a bit. I had more highs like that under the door handle that I whacked in a touch.

Nice work so far man. This car is going to be killer when finished! I should have painted/restored all the trim around the windows, etc when my neighbor guy painted my car for me a couple of years ago. What you did there will make a huge difference once everything is done...its the little details that make the car!

yeah, around the door handles get pretty hairy sometimes, some of those you have to get close enough, because if you get too much mud around the lock you cant get the clip on and that really sucks during reassembly

I've been thinking about what to do on that trim for a while now. I sure hope what I did holds up and looks good for a while. I still have the other side to do. I figure when I get sick of sanding again I'll do it.

Evercoat has a flowable putty in a tube thats supposed to be for bumpers and plastic trim. It might be worth a try also. Or like other guys have done, use several coats of a thick flexible primer.

the flexible paint/ primer don't do !!!! the trick is put your paint on as thin as possible to keep it from cracking, I used flex agent on my bumper and you saw how it cracked.LOL looking good now your coming down the home stretch, just....a....little.....more
