I've been buying parts for the K1500 since the TR is broken. Got 2 new fenders, a grille, and all new shocks and steering parts. I also got new front hubs and CV axles on the way. While I'm waiting on parts to show up I got some more sanding done on the Tbird.

That's why I try to post a little something whenever I can.

Right now I am sick and tired of sanding, but have a good bit of time this week to get it nearer to spraying.

I found a couple more things in the roof and filled them, and a dent or two in both of the fenders while blocking them out. Those are also worked up pretty nicely now, and I'm ready for another coat of primer.

The 3M filler worked outstanding on the bumpers. Those look great IMHO.

I picked up a quart of Omni epoxy for the sealer coat, maybe I'll be ready for some of that tomorrow night.

I'm finally satisfied with the passenger door, and I'm down to the final smear of filler. (I found one last ding in a fender when blocking the last primer coat)

I plan to unwrap the car, back it out into the driveway to blow it out and clean it real well. While it's out I'll get the fenders, nose, and bumpers in sealer.  Of course this all depends on getting them sanded to where I like them today.

I'm done for today. It got hot out again and I tired out faster than I expected.
Here's all I got for you. Had to throw in a shot of my oldest Ford.:giggle:

I love the old girl. The 8N was the first thing I bought with the bank money meant for building the house.

Still doing her job after outlasting a new (in 1991) Woods mower and putting in my 3 acre yard and my neighbor's 2 acre yard. She's tough as nails, she is.

You can't buy that quality any more. :(

Here are some shots from earlier in the day that I want to show. Sorry but they are out of sequence!

Oh boy, Oh boy!!!!  It is coming together!

Alright, tell me the process now...  You sprayed a final primer coat.  Let mostly dry.  Spray color coat.  Let mostly dry.  Spray many coats of clear?

Are there sanding steps along the way?  It looks like you sanded part of the header panel after color before clear.

No, unfortunately I got some pics out of order. I was posting while waiting in between coats.

I waited 24 hrs after the last 2k primer before spraying any sealer. I found a hundred small pinholes from rock chips in the upper header, so I applied 1 last coat of polyester filler. I sanded that down, took everything smooth with 180 followed by 320 dry paper, then applied a sealer coat of 2 parts MP170 epoxy to 1 part activator to 1/4 of the reducer for the paint for extra flow. 1 coat only of that.

I let that dry for 45 minutes and then shot the color, 2 coats ( to be sure of even coverage) with no sanding in between. Then I followed with 2 wet coats of clear. I let the 1st clear coat dry for 15 minutes before applying the second.

This isn't a show job. I'd be sanding for another month if I wanted it to be perfect. I am shooting for something I'll be proud to have done without spending too much time on it.

My philosophy is: I can get it in color in a day, I can get it pretty nice in a week, or  near perfect in 2 months.

This was always going to be a pretty nice job. So far I'm very pleased. I got a little dry on the fenders, probably because I didn't want to deal with runs and I'm a bit out of practice. It'll look just fine, though. Very little dirt in anything.

Now to get the body done, as well as the hood and side moldings.

I'm happy!

Car is coming along nicely!

On a side note...is that a JD 110 I see lurking in the background and a tiller in the foreground to go along with it?  I love me some old JD lawn tractors...wish I could find a tiller for my 112.
