Car is coming along nicely!

On a side note...is that a JD 110 I see lurking in the background and a tiller in the foreground to go along with it?  I love me some old JD lawn tractors...wish I could find a tiller for my 112.

Why yes it is! That tractor was bought new in 1968 by my grandfather, William Franks. My father used it after Granpap couldn't anymore, until the mower rusted out and the engine was beyond repair. I ended up with it and just couldn't part with it, so I re-engined it last year, welded the heck out of the mower deck,  and my wife and son now use it to cut grass. I'm proud to still have Grandpap's old Deere. It's gonna get a paint job next year!

Thanks Chuck. So far so good.

Hey, what color is your 83?

I have to say I'm a bit disappointed in the silver poly. It seems like shiny primer in some light. I was hoping for more 'pop'. I am wishing I had gone for a custom silver as I'm looking at this now. It'll be fine, but just not as 'shagy' as I had thought going in.

Thanks! Yours is looking good in the new pics. I can't wait to be driving mine. Maybe in a month or so. Depends on work and how much life interferes. LOL

Thank you stangman. This part seems to crawl along. I have a stretch of fantastic weather to get it in color and I'll try to make the best of it. It'd be awesome to be assembling it next week!

Yesterday was such a long day. I was out here on the car at 5:30 AM and went in after cleaning the gun around 6:00 PM IIRC.

Plus I helped my brother fix his diesel Suburban. Had to cut and flare a buggered brake line. A shop wanted to charge him $1500.00 for a new ABS unit.

I fixed it for...............FREE!

Had to make a paycheck. Back on it today.

Started out by cleaning on the jambs getting ready to mask off for body paint. I saw some cracked up sealer on the body, so I chipped it out and repaired it with a little seam sealer. I don't want any leaks. I also added a little sealer and brushed it out on the trunk gutter.

The pictures make it look nasty, but once painted over it'll look OEM.

Gotta finish re-taping and get my plan for how to tackle the remaining work.

Option 1 is to do the roof, body, backs of doors and trunk jamb first.

Then mask that stuff off tomorrow and paint the hood, trunk lid, and doors.

That will leave one more round of painting for the side moldings and other little stuff.

Option 2 would be to paint the outsides of the doors and the trunk lid with the main body and roof today.

Then tomorrow mask off and spray hood, door backs and trunk jamb. The remainder at a later time.

I'll mull it over while I mask the windows.

The powers to be in my state banned the 3m brushable seam sealer. I used some under the car and was going strong for about an  hour with no fresh air and I think I know why its baned.

Yeah, really!

It is STRONG smelling stuff. I've used it for years on Triumphs because it looks a lot like the factory brushed sealer. I've had this can for a long time.

I didn't spray yesterday, just cleaned, re-taped, and went over the panels with 320 one more time. I removed the trunk lid to make it easier to spray the jamb.

I'm gonna try to get more color on it today.

Roof in paint

I couldn't decide on a way to go around the car and have good access to the roof, so I decided to just mask off and spray it by itself.

I was afraid I would stripe the color if I tried to lean out too far.

Good idea. Good to get that out of the way now, before its too late and you gotta paint it again. I need to do something about my trunk. Prolly gonna end up doing the whole seam cause I can't actually figure out WHERE the leak is.
