The fender looks a different shade there.QUOTE]

The doors will look that way also, they aren't sheet metal, the are a composite material, most GM bumpers are that way, the paint can match perfectly and look completely different. The '04-06 Grand Prix's are the worst for that problem as well as any Cobalt.

The easiest way to make sure you don't have problems with dirt in the base or clear is make sure you wet the floor down and have one open airway(doorway) with a fan pulling air out of that opening, but allowing airflow only through the fan, not above, below or around. It helps alot when painting outside of a booth.

Thanks for the tips!

I do wet down the floor and walls before spraying. It makes a difference for sure.

My fan is set up to blow into the 'booth' through a filter, then I leave a  small space under the door. I set it so the booth walls are 'puffed out' so I am higher pressure in than out.

That seems to work pretty well for my makeshift setup. The biggest benefit is that it allows me to pump in warm shop air when it is cold out.  I run through a bunch of fuel oil when I paint in the winter, though! I try to get my painting done in Spring and Fall.

Spent almost 4 hrs blocking with 320 on a long block this morning. Sanded flat all the primer from yesterday.

I found a few more imperfections to fill, but so far, so good.

At this point I'd estimate I have about 6-8 hours of bodywork and blocking left before the sealer coat of epoxy.

I made a statement earlier about not liking the 2k high build primer, but that turned out to be a bad roll of sand paper instead of the primer. As far as workability goes, I like it just fine.

This ends up being the same paint Summit sells under it's own name.

I can't wait to get this part done already.:brick:

I had to take the day off. The fingers on my left hand are getting really sore from me sanding off the skin. I should go commit a crime left-handed since I have no prints to leave. LOL

I keep knocking paint nibs off the sandpaper with my fingers. Pretty dumb I know. I will be taking a couple days to mend before getting back on it.

Thanks, Shredder (I think) ;)

Driver's door is looking good. I just started on the pax  side before I noticed I was wounded.

I had a couple long days in the 'office' recently so it turns out to have happened at a good time.

I'm feeling good now, so tomorrow I'll get back on it.

Are you using a guide coat for your blocking?

Yes. This is the method I've been using:

I spray and block a coat of high-build with 320 after I think I have the bodywork at 100%. That usually shows a couple of spots that need a light smear of ultra-fill. Then I prime again and use a guide coat with 320. If I break through the primer while sanding, prime again.

There's a few days left in the month, and I'm hoping to see color on it soon.

Hood, roof, trunk lid, driver's door, upper valence, driver's sail and quarter, passenger's r. quarter all done.

Passenger door in process. I just did a big (thin) smear to hopefully get the last of the waves and low spots.

I also mixed a batch of flexible epoxy for the bumper repair. There was some left over so I used it on a side window to see how it will work.

The front fenders look pretty nice, so they will be quick. I have a couple dents filled and smoothed just to use up extra filler when I have it.

I'm pretty pleased with how it is looking. Can't wait to get to squirting some color!

Sanded the flexible epoxy on the window and it's looking good, so went with a full coat over the whole thing.

Yes.  Looking very good.  Man, what a LOT of work.  Great progress!

I was definitely wondering what to do with the 1/4 window trim.  I hope it turns out well.

Thanks for the update.

It looks like the window trim is getting a nice smooth texture. I'll keep taking progress pics of it.
