Got all back together and fired up again on Friday.

The good news is that the car is totally sealed now. No leaks of any kind. I'm really happy about that.

I am having trouble with the way it runs, however. I had it running great the first day excepting the cold start, which takes some time to get tuned. Then when I went out to fire it yesterday I couldn't even keep it running.

I charged the battery overnight and got some fresh gas to mess with it again today. I may just flush out the laptop of all Megasquirt files, re-flash the firmware, and start from scratch on the control side of things. It SEEMS like a computer issue but I'm not sure yet.

I'll keep you posted.

OOPS!

It was just getting too low on gas. Megasquirt can't fix that little problem. :hick:

It's running fine now, well enough that I'm going to stop doing mechanical and start on paint.

There's *gotta* be something in the Extra code that allows for spontaneous fuel production... :hick:

Glad to hear it's sorted and running well, and keeping all fluids and extraneous gases contained.

Congratulations!  I'm glad it is sealed and seems to be running well mechanically.  I guess it is a LOT less work just putting it back together and not fabricating everything along the way.  The megasquirt tuning should be fun, cuz you can get instant gratification by little tweaks in the settings.

I still haven't run mine long enough to ensure there are no mechanical issues.

Good luck on the paint!!!  That is the one thing I haven't tried to tackle myself.  I still have to do that, but hope to drive it a little while to work out the bugs.

Thanks guys!

Yeah, it was easier to fix the stuff than to be building it from scratch. I am not looking forward to the paint. There are a mess of door dings and small dents to fix. The body is great for an old car, but it will take time to get it straightened out.

At least I didn't try too long to get it to run while it was out of gas. My gauge is off a little, so I'll have to be careful after she's running.

I'm messing with closed loop idle at the moment, trying to get it to idle without surging, and yet not stall when I put it in gear. If I have too much trouble with it I may just get a MS2 processor. They say that closed loop idle is way easier to get right on MS2. I haven't ever tried it to know for sure.

I futzed around with the idle settings some more, and actually have it to where I can cold start it and put it in gear without it stalling.

There is still some slight surging at times. It isn't anything I can't live with as is, and I bet I can tune it better over time. The closed loop idle settings are a bit complicated for me to fully understand and I need more practice and experimenting.

I've had it up and down the road a few more times. Tranny seems excellent and is shifting fine using the canned tune from Baumann. I've had it up to about 60 so far. No boost yet until I get more tuning done on the N/A part of the map. It would be fun even without the extra HP, but we know how that goes. Never enough!

Today I'm setting up and cleaning the paint booth, then stripping the rest of the emblems and trim off the car. There's a small amount of sandblasting I want to do, then I can start sanding and filling dents.

Excellent!  I hear you on fiddling with some of the finer-grade tuning.  My cold-start is about 90% (It'll start on the first try most of the time, idle @ 1800-2000, then idle down as it warms up, with a minimal amount of surging), but that last 10% is gonna be a PITA to get.

Good to hear you have most of the mechanical stuff sorted now, and can get to the cosmetic stuff.  I'd be itching to much to drive it at this point, and have to throw it together and enjoy it a bit before I spent the time making it pretty.

I may have missed this some where but are you still running the E7 heads?

Awesome!  You actually drove it!!!!!!!  I'm so jealous.  Congratulations!

Good to hear the idle issues are getting better.  Also glad to hear the tranny is shifting well as I'm considering the Baumann opti-shift and want to make sure it is drivable.

You don't know how close I came to bolting it together enough to get it driveable!

It is just so much closer to being fully stripped down for paint that I have to do it now.

I'm pretty pleased that MS1 is idling as good as it is already. I will really need it to work with the big fan and A/C with an automatic.

Yep, stayed with the E7's for now. The Twisted Wedge heads will be next year.
