Good to hear the idle issues are getting better. Also glad to hear the tranny is shifting well as I'm considering the Baumann opti-shift and want to make sure it is drivable. Thanks, mang!I am pretty impressed so far with the Baumann. It makes sense to me to go 4R70W. I may look for another as a spare. There's no driving it now. All the trim and side glass is gone. Door handles and locks, too. Quote Selected

The engine I bought had GT40P heads, but I couldn't use them because of the plug angle. The plugshiznit my flipped headers. I traded them to a friend and he is using them on his TVR V8 swap. Looks like it's just about ready to spray.I'm going to yank my headliner and remove the strips over the quarter windows, then mine is officially stripped down. I am hoping for cooler weather so the body work isn't too miserable. Quote Selected
1988 TC single Holset turbo 5.0/ 4R70W Reply #500 – August 13, 2011, 06:20:47 AM Yea its getting there. You said remove the strips on the rear quarter glass. Do you mean the black molding? Mine were all cracked and attached to the glass I just body worked them. I taped up the glass sprayed 5 or 6 coats of primer and sanded smooth I'm gonna use the same trim black as the handles and mirrors to finnish them. Good luck with the cooler weather. Quote Selected
1988 TC single Holset turbo 5.0/ 4R70W Reply #501 – August 14, 2011, 11:43:12 AM No, I was talking about the fill strips above the quarter windows on the roof. I think they are removable.I am going to do a similar deal as you on the rubber attached to the quarter windows. I'm going to try to skim on urethane bumper repair epoxy as a filler, then sand 'em and spray satin black.I'll let you know if it works or not. Quote Selected
1988 TC single Holset turbo 5.0/ 4R70W Reply #502 – August 15, 2011, 09:49:25 AM Here's a pic of the strip roof trim piece removed and laying on the roof upside down. The tools I bought for removing the windshield/rear window trim and side moldings worked pretty well. The back was a bitch due to butyl on the trim holding it in place. With some time, care, and effort it came off and will be re-usable. I'll need new clips for the w/s and back window trim. Most were pretty rusted. Quote Selected

So great to see how much effort and time you are putting into your thunderbird. It is motivation to the rest of us to keep going on our projects too.I'd love to know the details on what works best for you on the bodywork, priming and painting mixtures. I assume you will do base/clear? Quote Selected

1988 TC single Holset turbo 5.0/ 4R70W Reply #506 – August 16, 2011, 06:02:54 AM Dropped the sides on the booth after some heavy-duty cleaning. Everything is ready to start sanding. The deal on the back strips is that they end up glued on by the butyl rubber sealer. It is real hard to get them off without bending them.Using a base/clear in original silver, Shredder. I tend to just mix by what's recommended on the label.I won't be stripping the paint, just sanding down what's there 'till it's smooth. Then I'll do the bodywork/ dent fill. Then a few coats of high build sanded down to 400# and a final epoxy sealer coat before spraying color and clear. Quote Selected

Then again, I could REALLY get myself into trouble if I had that much room to work in. :hick: I kind of went nuts right after I built th garage and got covered up in projects. There will be a lot more room once I get the Tbird together. All the boxes of stuff will get sorted and either stowed away for spares or sold off. I have 2 Triumphs to put together, a 1968 TR250 and a 1974 TR6. Everything is here for the TR6 except new bumpers, including a gallon of enamel paint! Once those are done the garage will be able to hold the truck and 2 Triumphs. I'll sell off either the 250 or the 6 and keep the other along with the turbo TR7.SO, yeah....... I know what you are talking about. LOLBTW, if I had it to do over I'd use silver tarps for the booth sidewalls ...... they'd reflect more light. It is a bit too dark with the blue ones. Progress pics 8-22 Reply #509 – August 22, 2011, 09:16:01 AM Not a lot to show, just some removal of adhesive and general sanding. I'm just using a D/A sander with 150 grit (held flat) to help show the dents and remove the outer skin of paint and . Had a couple small surface rust spots from ses and such that I hit with 80 grit. Sandblasted the fender lip on the passenger fender to get rid of a little scale. Very light rust, no holes or even close to holing through.I have to get all the glue off the sides yet. Nose and front bumper are done, back bumper and hood are up next. Should be starting with filler soon. Quote Selected
