So you guys do have rust down south;)

It looks much better after the clean up. What was that oily gunk from the rack or a leaky oil pan?

I think they call us something like the Midwest. LOL. Rust is easy to avoid here if you take proper care of your cars. It wont be a spotless Oklahoma car or anything... but its not a NY car.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

It was pretty nasty, I think the valve cover gaskets were pretty well non-existent on the SO 5.0 :hick:

The few times I drove it after I bought it, it smoked from the exhaust manifolds pretty badly. At first I started spraying some 2-dollar-a-can stuff from wal mart, and using a scrub brush (notice the bare primer spots on the firewall?)
Then I borrowed a power washer from the father in law...only took about 2 hours after that :hick:

Thanks for the kind words fellas, gonna blast the little bit of gunk off of the HO sometime this week, get the a.c. condenser holes welded shut on the firewall, then drop the HO in there. Bout dang time too, only been 10 years in the making lol.

Then I get to reassemble the interior...hope I remember where all the screws go, it's only been apart 5 months now :hick:

Well, with the speed that I tend to do stuff (you remember the water pump, right?) you'll have worn the other TC out before I get the seat brackets bolted to the seats, lol.

Some days I don't even wanna look at it. Maybe I ought to just sell it, buy a  civic, and get over this V8 dream-turned-nightmare.

Then again...not. Just been a really stressful coupla days for me.

I think Sunday afternoon I'll try to get the interior all together, sans headliner, probably just gonna leave the stock blue POS in there for now, since I don't have access to a good moonroof headliner.

Finally got my brake line adaptors...the ones that came with the new hoses were NOT the right size.

Out of random curiosity, and extreme boredom, I've figured up total cash outlay in this project so far:

Sport: $450.00
HO/T5/8.8, short throw shifter, strut brace, H pipe, and adjustable clutch cable: $1,000
4 used 225/60/16 tires $50.00
new front brakes hoses and fittings: $70.00 for hoses, $15.00 for fittings
$24.50 for header gaskets
$63.00 for manual driver's seat bracket

total $1,672.50 so far.

I know this is a mere pile of change compared to Eric's vert, or quite a few others, and I'm not bitching about the money invested, to me, it's been well spent, it's just a quick summary of how fast this stuff will nickle and dime a person.

I just wish I had a little bigger budget, and a little more time to work on it...

So I've been tinkering on and off all afternoon and night, up till now on the Bird.
Have the brake hoses, and calipers on, no pads yet, will grab new ones on payday.

Got a serious start on the interior, gray carpet in, and seats mounted.

Anybody with a manual driver seat track notice that you sit rather close to the roof? lol...:hick:

Getting ready to go throw the dash in.
Was going to use the manual heater box...but umm, shiznit happens, ya know, so for the time being, it won't have heat. :hick:

I wish I had a welder. If there was a welder here, I kid you not, I'd find a way to have the 5.0 and the t5 in it by weekend.
I know it'd be a right PITA to weld the plates over the holes with the engine in, so I'm holding back on that...for now.
Can't drag it to a friend's house, cause I have no brakes on it, and the big chevy has a busted brake line to boot. It's always something...:punchballs:

Anywho, I know I said the next pics I posted of it would be the HO and T5 in...but I'm gonna lie about that, and go ahead, and post some pics of what I've done today...it's starting to look like a car again, and I'm ed excited by it. :D

New hoses, 11" rotors, and of course the PRC struts:

close-up of the hose and fitting:

don't mind the mess...i need to put shelving in and quit using my Fords as storage lol

carpet going in:

now the seats:

dash in, big-assed mess of wiring though. hope the car runs with most of it not hooked up...

the shift-hole lol

Which way does this go in, anyway?

It's all dusty from sitting, but will be cleaned up soon, believe me.

wish I had a welder...maybe soon....
anyway, these are the holes I want closed up, not the heater core hole, or he 2 screw holes, just the AC holes:

hey Beau, just an idea.  you could cover the A/C holes with aluminum tape for the rare case that you change your mind about having air.  just my .02  ;)

The 5 speed floor plate/gasket is different from a Stang to our car's.I made the hole in the floor match the Mustang's so I can swap shifters from in the car.Nice and easy.
