Shorter belt to by pass the air pump?

So I'm doing the HO swap as we speak and I'm eliminating the air pump and all it's tubes and such. Do I have to either run the air pump disconected or run an eliminator bracket, or is their a shorter belt that will by pass the air pump but still run the water pump, A/C, power steering, and alternator? I'd rather just not bother with the eliminator and clean up the front of the engine a bit if possible. Thanks :D

Remove pump and bracket and run a shorter belt.  You don't need an eliminator or anything like that.

I figured I could do that but thanks for the reassurance. Any idea on a belt part# that would fit? If anybody knows that would be nice.

You can run a piece of string or rope around it to come up with something close and just make sure you can return if it don't fit.

I did the samwe thing,but I don't remember the length,sorry.I ran a string around the pulleys and got a ball park figure and then drove to Autozone to change belst (you can bypass it with the pump still on.I messed with belts in their parking lot so I wouldn't have to buy 6 belts or keep driving back and forth.I eliminated my a/c as well.It never worked,and I am used to not having it after 8 years.

The non a/c belt works then. Cool. Just a dumb question but do you have a picture of how it should be routed?

Thats what I used on my car. I don't have a pic but it just goes from the crank pully to the alt pully.

Ok I'll figure it out. I just have to make sure it runs the same way or I'll spin the water pump in the wrong direction :hick:

The non-A/C belt also fits if you still have the A/C and you Power Steering pump seizes and burns your belt off. :flame:
You can bypass the power steering pump and go straight over the A/C compressor. So what i am trying to say is A non-A/C belt is the proper length to bypass the power steering pump and keep the A/C compressor if need be.

Just some, probably useless, information from my own personal experience.:hick: :hick:

Its not very fun trying to park the car with no power steering though.

So are you saying that if I do this I'll screw up my power steering pump or that if the pump goes my belt will fry? I figure that if the power steering pump goes my belt is fried either with or with out the idler pully.

Just install the belt and you'll be fine.No worries.I've been without smog equipment for a long time (no a/c either),and have never had any issues.Don't look to deep into this subject.Get the belt.Install the belt.Forget about the belt.Enjoy the car.That's it.

What about on an older bird like mine. I have the ALT and air pump on a serp belt and the water punp and PS on the V belt. Right now I'm just running the air pump disconnected and it's spinning free. Works OK for me
