Boasting 400+ hp the Challenger and the Camaro don't leave much choice when it comes to buying a new muscle car....300 hp for their top model is...weak. With the death of SVT we won't see any "super" Mustangs so Ford best have a plan to revamp its flagship to compete. I would imagine though...once they straighten everything out in management...the Cougar would be the Mustang of today once the Mustang competes with the muscle cars of the near future. Quote Selected

The Challenger, if made a mass production car will probably have a V6 version and then a Hemi version...which would have in the area of 420 hp...thats not an SRT model...so the GT500 Mustang is kinda like the SRT model. Also its without a power adder. The Camaro is the same way, with a V6 version planned and then a 400+ LS2 V8 in the pricier model.The Mustang is going to need to get a new source of power if Dodge and GM go ahead with those numbers...both are N/A. And even with the GT500, the muscle car wars will be between Mopar and GM with there standard, non-special/limited edition models. The SRT and GM "super" models will kill the GT500 if the standard ones can keep up with it. Quote Selected

I Built It From A Front End Wreck In 1978 .it Was A Hard Car To Gets Parts For . It Was Metalic Forest Green With White Top And White Interior . It Was A Sweet Ride . Was So Sad To Sell It When I Did My Dad Wouldn't Let Me Hold On To It Cause He Was A Cheap Basturd . And Didn't Help Me With My Mustang Ii When I When I Got It In 1978 It Was 1 1974 4 Banger . Hated It .. But Was To Late To Get My Cougar Back.. I Have A 1987 Cougar Xr7 Now . I Need Some Parts For It Like All Powersteering Lines On The Rack All Of Them Are Rusted.. The Are All Rusty. And Can I Ask U Guys Something Can One Change Out A 4 Lug Wheels For A Five Lugs On This Car This Xr7 Has A Posi Rear And What Car Do I Have To Use To Take These Parts From And Is It An Easy To Convert????? And How Do I Find 5 Lug Rotors What Front Rotors Will Work On The 87 4 Lug Cougar And Do The Same Calapers Work On These Rotors Or Do I Have To Change Everything From The Ball Joints And Control Arms And Can A Rear Drum Be Converted To Rear Disc On This Car . New Cougar in HOT ROD Reply #11 – May 27, 2006, 03:44:26 PM I don't think that GM and Dodge will have much of an advantage, even with more power in the "concepts" they're farting in the wind yet...yes I know GM has all but made the Next-Gen Camaro...but it isn't out yet...you have show this hillbilly.When (or if) they do get built, I think Ford will have by then offered us a higher performance version of the Stang...or else they really do have theirs heads up theier collective asses :flame: Far as a new Cougar would go, they could give it the same drivetrain, but add more creature features, like mentioned, make it about 2 seconds slower than the current GT, and i have reasonable belief they'd sell nearly every one they could build...they Could even do a Cougar Eliminator...with full leather, sunroof, all the fancy shiznit, and put in a higher than normal HP engine, it'd be sweet...C'mon Ford, do it!
