It could be all gummed up.  Gas turns to varnish, and after 3 years you could have all kinds of sticky goop.  Are you getting power to the pump?

The FP or EEC power relays could be sticking as well.

Gas is new as of a month or 2 ago . As for the pump geting power all I know is its not kicking on when the car is being started . Relays i was just talking to my dad and he asked one of the mustang guys where he works and they said one of the relays is under the drivers seat . Anyone know how many relays there are ?

ah true enough .... i think as long as its nice or warm at least  this weekend . we will be riping, tearing, testing, checking, swearing and spending money at NAPA . so if a relay is under the drivers seat dose that mean under the carpet usually ?

I wouldn't really worry about the old gas part.  I bought a '70 Tbird that sat in a barn for 12 years with a full tank, started with some ether and ran like shiznit, but still ran enough to drain the tank eventually.  Granted a carb and injectors are different, but fuel probably isn't a concern.

One more thing,  if you find out you are getting power to the pump, but have no pressure in the line, the line inside the tank between the pump and sending unit is gone.  I've had this happen two times.

first try the starting fluid. 8 fuel injectors will clog up alot faster then two or three carbjets. also alot more kinks in the gas lines.

I am just saying, if you arent sure if the fuel pump is kicking, use starting fluid. That will tell for sure it is a problem with the gas. It saves time and money.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

I had to replace the tank and pump on my nephews '87 Stang that had set for 4-5 years. Pump(and tank) was ruined by the gunk, goop, and rust in the bottom of the tank. Got lucky and found a nice one for $25 at a swap meet...
