I should buy a Mustang for a winter beater and talk about it in here and one us can post on that site! lol

How many Mustangs have given their lives to upgrade T-Birds and Cougars? Even Hawk's bottom end came from a 'Stang, and as soon as I can find one worth killing I'll kill it for the T-5 swap & other goodies. In 20 years, when Fox Mustangs are worth big bucks and fox T-Birds are what people that can't afford a Mustang but still want a Fox settle for, there will be a lot of "I can't believe I took one of those apart to fix up a T-Bird" people around here...

Don't get me wrong. I'd take a T-Bird over two Mustangs, but I, like many of the other members of this board, am a minority. (T-Birds and Cougars) weren't as popular as the Mustang when new, and it's unlikely that will ever change.

Good luck Hawk!  I think I speak for everybody here when I say that your Thunderbird is one of the best examples Of how a car SHOULD be built.  You car has been the inspiration for 3 of my projects so far.  I absolutely LOVE the color.  The story behind it all is great as well.  Great Job, and good luck with the mags!

the only problem i have with the winter beater part is the fact that its a rwd car with a turbo and is notoriously bad in snow lol, its the same to me as buying a grand national, or svo as a winter beater. my beater car is a manual fwd car lol. but in the same, a turbo wouldnt be so bad if it has awd or 4x4, just mixing the traction issues with the turbo and ice/snow sounds bad lol.

btw, i think hawk should be in a mag. hell... iv seen tones of mustangs that arnt half as nice as hawk's bird and manage to get in to one, but i guess it's more being in the rite place at the rite time sort of thing...

Hawk's car is shag on wheels (and shagy wheels at that) :)

My dream car is basically hawk's, cept for a 408 with a turbo, G-force t56 and recaro's.

One thing I've found is that Fox Mustangs tend to be "bellybutton cars" and people still go nuts over them. A couple years back me and a guy I know from Turboford (who had an '86 SVO) were in the show at WFC. Beside him, there was a bright red Fox GT on chome cobra R's with a supercharger and yadda yadda yadda, and people were creaming their pants over the thing....granted he had a dyno sheet showing like 590 hp, but there was nothing unique about the car whatsoever. I still love Fox Mustangs but they all seem to end up looking the same. When you go to a big car show like the one at WFC that becomes painfully obvious.

Oh and about the turbo coupe as a winter car...really, could you HAVE a worse winter car? Sheesh, a turbo car is probably the worst thing to drive in winter, especially in a turbo coupe with the short 1st gear (in a 5 speed at least), low rear gears, and small IHI which spools up really quick. Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me.

If it makes anyone feel better, just remember that an 87 Mustang gave up its guts for my project.  One less foxstang... And I promise I'll never hack up a good TBird/Cougar

Thank you Mr. Fairmont lover,  we like you more now.  But if you do get the chance to get a good deal on a TC rear we are not holding you back.

Hell I have 2 5.0L Fox Stangs, 2 Fox Cougars, and a 5.0L Fox T-bird.  The T-bird was SUPPOSE to be my winter car, but while I was under it doing the T5 swap I noticed it was still in too good of shape to do that too.  So, I have gone all this winter so far with no real transportation of my own.
I ocassionally drive my '88 Stang if the roads are clear, but with 4.10 gears and bald tires.....  NOT fun, with even a dusting of snow on the ground.

Since I moved to Texas my 87 bird has become my winter car... but it never snows here and hardly ever even rains. It stays in the garage in the summer when its 200 degrees outside and only gets driven at night then.

I agree that the Hawks ride needs to be in a CarCraft, MM&FF or 5.0&SF feature (not just the readers rides section). I also think he should compete in the CarCraft real street eliminator contest. I still haven't seen any other T-Bird done to the level his is at. I consider his car the ultimate incarnation and definitely something to aspire to!
