While I won't exactly take credit for the increase, it is at least good to see that tickets have just about doubled since I posted this. I just hope that we're close to whatever this place costs to renew for another year.. but I have a feeling we're not.

now this  me off
cant i just pay the old fashion way?
i dont mind donating,,never have minded.

what you dont realize is that Since my IP is pinged as in freaking iraq,, my cc gets denied because the ingenious IT guru decided that if your IP doesnt match the country your credit card is from, you must be a thief or sumthin.

My buddy here got the same results while ordering an external hd.  he ordered his hard drive,, filled out the form for shipping to indiana.,, dell electroicaly informs him that "we do not ship to iraq".  After a long back and forth emailing, it was decided that dell was having difficluty preventing the automated system from making this mistake and creating the ship to info as iraq instead of what the customer asked for.

nodding my head in disbelief,, and why is my degree in computer science ill never know.

so,, if someone would be so kind as to take my info and order me a couple tickets ,id appreciate it,,,,,,,,revisedelf@brier.net

Nightly bump time.. I seriously doubt we're even over $400 in total funds raised here, people. (with several of us buying 3 for $25, that means that 41 tickets does not equal $410) I doubt we've reached whatever it costs to A) license vBulletin for a year, and B) host this board and all its posts and images for a year. Even if we had reached it, more money means more time paid for.. a buffer for this time next year.

I'm down to $117 balance on my credit card and about $70 in the bank, and I'm facing a lean paycheck this coming week.. (and the need to put about another $40 in the tank of the Mark, but I have a little bit of cash to cover it.. plus I need to pick up a timing light, with it knocking on 89 octane now when warm) but I'm still considering either donating again myself or donating on behalf of jcassity so he can get in under the wire and pay me later. I'd rather someone else step up and offer it.. but if not, I may just do that before Monday night. I don't expect other people to be considering multiple donations, but it would at least be nice to see more people buying even their first ticket if they are low on money.. more if they're not.

This quasi-guilt-trip is not targetted at people who have already bought tickets. Whatever your situation, if you already bought at least one ticket, you stepped up and delivered. It's also not targetted at people who have zero means. If you have no steady income and you still managed to find a way to buy at least one ticket, so much the better. I honestly would rather see someone win over myself who had zero steady income and still managed to find a way to step up and buy at least one ticket. (but if I win.. meh.. I win. I'm honestly ambivalent to the winning/prize/whatever part. It was more important to me to demonstrably give back to a site I've received so much from in the last year) As I've stated before, it's also not targetted at the people who give back like 99 times what they get from the site. They've given and given and given for the past year.. people like Tom and Chuck.. and in their cases, even they stepped up and bought at least one ticket. If people like those two can contribute financially, why the hell can't the rest of us? Tom, Chuck, Eric, Carmen, and a few others.. (and it's not meant as a snub if I forget to mention your name) we shouldn't expect them to be paying.. we should be buying them drinks, at the very least. Awhile back, Tom just out of the blue up and offered to send me (and did send) a couple spare 14# injectors to get my '88 T-bird on the road. I haven't yet, but it's mostly a case of also needing a fuel pump. (which I'll pick up soon) Anyway, that's the f'n MAN right there.. and I could buy ten times the tickets this week and still not equal that kind of generosity and contribution to the other members of the board.

It's targetted at people who have enough money to burn on this unnecessary go-fast part or that unnecessary go-fast part, who probably got advice on that unnecessary go-fast part from this place and saved them from buying the wrong unnecessary go-fast part, for one example.

Or people who saved themselves hundreds or thousands of dollars by getting good info here on how to do something themselves vs. taking it to a shop or whatever, and can afford to share some of those savings with the rest of us in the form of keeping the board going another 12 months, for another example.

Even if the advice here saved you an hour or two turning a wrench over doing it with no prior research on whatever project.. what was that hour or two worth to you? What will the next hour or two saved be worth on top of that? What if, for example, getting advice here saves you time AND unnecessary repeat trips to the parts store? Less wasted gas, less frustration, etc. You've then saved time AND money.. why not take this chance to give a bit back?

I'm sorry if I'm preaching a bit too much in this thread.. but this is one of the few forums over the past 12-13 years or so that I really like, and that has also been very useful to me. I think it's important to make an effort to keep it going, and this is one time I think that many of you should think the same thing. This isn't politics.. this isn't religion.. this isn't red state vs. blue state or American vs. Canadian or whatever.. this is an actual tangible contribution to a site that might just be helping to keep your beloved Bird or Cat on the road that much longer. It may sound overly dramatic.. but with all the threads I've been seeing lately about "should I keep my [bird/cat/etc.]", this place might be doing exactly what I just said.

Bird351, I agree with what you said, and I too find this forum to be a great place to get info about the cars or to just kick back in the Lounge. I don't post too much in any of the sections, but I am here most days of the week, and I think that the majority of the regulars have already bought a ticket.

So, to everyone who's still wondering whether they should partite or not, I'll add this to what Bird351 said:

If you read the forums, and you have a username, that means you either found something interesting enough to make you feel that you should reply to it, or that you asked for help. In both cases you partited to the discussion in one way or another, and you are therefore part of the community. Being part of a community means giving as well as getting, and well, wouldn't you know it, it's GIVING time now. So come on and pony up those ten measly dollars so that we can keep being a community and you can keep getting your thundercat fix.

Just so you don't have any more excuses, I'll make it easy for you:

Once again I must point out that although I appreciate the efforts, partiting this draw is 100% voluntary and nobody should feel guilty if they can't or don't buy a ticket. This site is and will remain free for all members. When I need money to keep it going I'll hold a draw like this one, but nobody will ever be required to pay.

Just thought I'd add this in case anyone is feeling bad...

Never said it wasn't 100% voluntary. Just my opinion that, if people CAN afford to give back, they should strongly consider doing so before Monday night.. if they find this place to be of use to them.

No one who cannot afford to give back should feel bad about that. We all go through bad patches. Hell, I was officially unemployed for the last 5 years. (although I made a little bit here and there, selling stuff on eBay) I'm intimately familiar with having not much to spare. If you did this again in six months, (which I'm not recommending, I'm just saying) some of the people who couldn't pay now would probably be able to, and some of the people who were able to pay this time probably couldn't.

If you just can't do it, you just can't do it. I'm trying to goad the people who can do it (and are probably willing to do it) into doing it, if they haven't done it already. But if they end up not doing it, well, that's their concern. I tried.

If I had any type of credit card or checking account, believe me, I'd buy more than 3 tickets just to help keep this site going, you guys and girls on here are about the best bunch of people I've ever come across on the net.  Not to mention all the knowledge I've gained from here.  If this goes on again next year, you bet your ass I'm gonna help out as much as I can.

F#$%/ng paypal, its avaible to mexico, but guess what ?  paypal dont support any of the banks here.....what the f#$% they were thinking ? how i am supposed to use it if i cant deposit any fund to any bank account ?

For Other hand, i´m of the most people that uses the board Information to know how to fix the cougar, even the other three cars in my familiy, and trust me, i´m feeling very bad because i cant give a donation to this board, even getting little money for at least two tickets. I got good answers to my questions in this forum, even if they are simple and my english is pretty bad, nobody says anything about it, just they help me the best they can, with excellent results...

 Example (explorerforum)
I: How i can repair my stock headunit from my 96? sounds pretty bad the cd..
Someone: Your Radio is toast, or burned. What do you expect from a 9 years old radio ?
End of the thread

(Foxtbirdcougarforums)
I:I have a explorer. How i can repair my stock headunit from my 96? sounds pretty bad the cd...
Friend 1: Check all the connections. May be a bad ground
Friend 2: Check the harness, may be loosen or could be a cold solder...
Friend 3: I had a radio with that problem. Try this...
Friend 4: I have a diagram . Check it out...
And suggestions until the problem is solved....

I appreciate all the those things really.....and dont getting a way to retribute is very bad...
