Well, that failed NOx emissions test did point me to a cooling problem I had. A new fan clutch (plus put in a 3 core radiator) and now passed the test

Even though my fan passed the "twist it by hand and it shouldn't spin hardly at all test", the new fan clutch makes you reeealy hear the wind noises when the car is started compared to the old one. Maybe that quick test isn't fool proof.

Here's numbers before and after the fix.
Before After Limit (gpm)
HC 0.33 0.32 1.4
CO 0.03 1.13 30
NOx 2.8 1.3 2.5
CO2 480 479 NA

This is for a stock 92 Mustang HO engine with essentially no miles on it.. Stock Cougar 5.0 headers and single exhaust.

I was actually looking forward of finding out what the heck a ratcheting clutch is, but I guess I'll stick with the AOD.

forgot about this thread, and yea they didnt test me for Nox lol, the things my car had wrong and passed:

no tuneup (running rich)
dieing cats
no smog
frozen fan clutch
exhaust leak
and there might be another or to lol.

the ratcheting action is just how the shifter works. my c4 is a manual valve body so instead of putting it into Drive, I actually have to go 1-2-3. which is fun chirping 2nd at 2500rpms cuz of this beefy as trans lol still undecided to rebuild it or 5spd swap, cuz then Ill have to get on the treadmill. Next meet we have Ill show you how the shifter in my car is so you can have a better understanding.

doesn't it work by swinging it forward, (or backwards, I can't recall exactly), each time you wanna upshift?
Dad had one on the Roadrunner when I was a kid, i think, seemed like it worked like that....not for sure though

yeh mainly like a normal auto shifter to upshift but u can only go into the nest gear, and have to pull a trigger to downshift.

im no longer emissions legal, no smog+offroad H :D sounds insane with 1 chamber lers, and headers are going on the 25th or 26th woo
