Transmission making weird noise

Hey guys, something under my cougar is making a metal to metal grinding sound when I get on the gas hard from a complete stop, or if I try to do a brake stand.  It sounds like it is coming from the tranny.

I looked up to see if there was a service bulletin for something like that.  the only thing I could find was that they said some of the Flex plates and torque converter bolts didn't have enough clearance so it would rub.  so I took off the cover right in front of the bell housing of the tranny, and it all looked well.  I'm stumped :-/. Any help would be great.

Thanks in advance!

It only makes a sound but you don't feel any vibrations or anything? My guess is it would have something to do with motor mounts and if they are loose you might be lifting the engine up and vibrating against something on the car... like exhaust...

Heat sheild on cat(s). Pop you hood while you put it in and out of gear. If your intake pops over your firewall, its probably motor mounts. Don't ask.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Probably the converter heat shields. They sound awful when the rust out.

I know you said you think its coming from the trans... but brake stands and metal to metal grinding = first thing I'd check is my brakes.... free and takes 10 minutes if you want to take the wheels off (and drum if you have drum brakes in the rear)

My second guess would have been heat shields also.

It is not the heat shield or the rear brakes, I check them both.  I have yet to check The motor mounts.  I'm hoping it is something simple!  I will check the motor mounts tonight.  It is driving me nuts! :-P.  Thanks guys!

Update:  It is the motor mounts.  The one on the left side is bad.  I'm glad it is not the Tranny like I was thinking it was.  Thanks Guys!
