I wonder how those Mark VII measurements are as opposed to the Sport's.

I may just try that trick in the morning.If the "flat" are under the carpt,the raised area,is where the pump is,I can probably figure it out.I'll do my best to grab a few pics and see how it turns out....IF I decide to go that route.It would make life a lot easier when and if this happens again,or if I decide to upgrade again down the road.

I don't need the measurements.I did it....I cut the hole in the trunk,and I'll fab a removable plate tomorrow morning.WOW !!!.Fuel pump swaps will be a piece of cake.It took me about 5 minutes to cut the hole,and then the actual pump swap.Easy stuff.I very carefully drilled a 1/2 inch hole first in the area I thought the pump would be,shined the flashlight in the hole and got an idea of what the actual location was,got out the Dremmel with a cutoff wheel for steel,and in no time,a nice hole was cut.After doing it,I have no regrets,especially considering how easy it made the job.The whole task,including the pump swap was less time than dropping the tank after siphoning the fuel (full tank).As I stated,I'll fab the cover tomorrow.Probably from a thick baking sheet we have and never use.I never liked that pan,but never got rid of it.I suppose it really did have a higher purpose in life.LOL..

I would do it in a minute to save the aggrevation of dropping the tank...  Why designers so thoughtless to not design an access hole on so many cars ever made is beyond me.

So where is the sending unit in relation to all of this. I eventually need to swap for a sending unit that will make my fuel gauge read correctly.

I'll take the measurements for the fuel pump in relation to the trunk itself,then,you'll have to find out how far the sender is from the pump and go from there.No hole for the sender will be cut........hopefully ever.After I drop the youngest off at school,I'll fab up a plate to cover it,and put the trunk back together.

It seems like the link given on page two for the Mark VII matches up really good to our cars,although I made the hole a little bigger so i had a little more room to work.The hole I cut was 5 inches front to back by 7 inches side to side.Just right.I got a 12x12 sheet of steel from Lowe's and made a patch panel for it,layed down a bead of sealant,and installed some self tapping sheet metal screws (button head).It was very easy and worth it.After the carpet was placed back down,no-one will ever know.

I wish someone had already cut mine , That way I would have easy access, and no guilt about cutting my car :hick:

I feel the same way,I did NOT want to cut the car,but,it's in a spot that can't be seen,it can save a lot of aggravation,especially if the pump goes out miles and miles from home.It only took about 5 minutes to cut the hole,and now,I can relax.
