py day.......

I was supposed to meet up with the car ckub, travel to Texas Motor Speedway, have some fun, drive the Sport a few laps around the track with the pace car in the lead.....Come to find out, there's a member or two from here down there. !!! The event is supposed to take place again in the fall...We'll be there with the Sport.

Well,I got up early as I usually do.All was fine in the world.I went and washed the Sport, clay bar, good waxing, polished the wheels, etc. After that,My youngest and I went to do some Mother's day shopping.Again, all good.On the way home, about 1/2 mile from home, the car started to fall flat.It idled fine, but on acceleration,it had no power, slight popping,so,I pulled over, turned off the car,and it was fine....for a minute, then back to the same problem. I traced the problem to the fuel pump.Well, this was at 3:20,and we were supposed to meet the group at 3:45...16 miles away.No dice.I end up staying home, with a new pump in the trunk waiting to go in probably Monday morning...maybe tomorrow, but,it's Mother's Day,so,I plan on staying in with the Mrs....cooking and whatever she wants me to clean, fix, whatever. It's her day.I also have to work..

Anyway, the Sport looks great sitting still, going nowhere,in the driveway, with 22 gallons of fuel and a bad pump. For once I'd like the pump to die when I have 5 gallons of gas.....if it has to die.

While I was griping and cranky and couldn't drive the Sport,,I was looking at what I had under warranty, and ended up swapping brakes, ignition switch, ignition module,MAP sensor (O.K.,BAP sensor since the Mass Air upgrade),and then I griped some more.man, what a py day.I don't blame the Sport, the pump has been well used.Oh well,I'll swap the pump as soon as I can. News to follow.

That's too bad. In a "glass is half full" kind of way, at least it didn't die a mile from the track on the way over.

And at least you have a nice clean car and a wax job.  Also is good that you can afford 22 gallon of gas and the new part to put in.

Things happen like this, have an excellent mothers day.

Well, the waxed partis a good thing.....but,it rained all night. LOL.I wouldn't have had the funds, but, the cash for the pump was what I had set aside to go to Texas,so,it all worked out.The worse part about it for me is the full tank and swapping the pump.I've done it before, and don't like it.I'll set the back end of the Sport on jack stands, then put a medium sized piece of wood on top of the 2 tone floor jack and lower the tank as little as possible, pop in the new pump, and lift it back up.I may have to siphon a little out.Probably will.

I would try to get the most out of it that you can.  Even on the jack it could slip and go sideways and make a very big mess.

I hate doing this job and I have a hoist and transmission jack.  Seems like I always end up smelling like gas, my shop too.

Check your feed line coming from the pump.....It might be cracked/split....

Got a siphon so maybe you could put the gas in another car(s)?

I will try to make it easy, and dry,as possible.LOL.This would be a good time to have a panel in the trunk floor.I've seen people do this before.Anyone got any pics of that?

I'm liking the idea a lot right now, but, when it comes down to it,I honestly don't know if I could actually cut the car like that.

I'll grab a siphon after work. The lines should be fine,no leaking,or other fuel issues, just a fuel pump that is screaming.

I have an inline pump that I use to suck the fuel out, takes some time but it works quite well. Inline pump with hose stuck down the fill tube.

I mean the part of the line in the tank itself.    Double-check while you're in there.

Thanks for the link guys.Actually,I'm beginning to be more and more good with the panel. If this would've happened out of town, with minimal tools and in bad way.The panel would help a LOT.

As far as the hose demon,I got a new one with the pump. It'll be swapped whether it needs it or not.Now is the time.I'll swap it first thing in the morning.I'm doing laundry right now and thinking about what to cook for supper.....It's Mother's Day you know.
