Help me decide?

I'm gathering the parts to rebuild my TC 8.8~
I'm needing axels, in 31 spline 5 lug to work with my 4:10 setup.

Anyway,
I have an offer for a pair of Strange 5 Lug fox length 31 spline axles w/ C-Clip Eliminator for $200 shipped.
I'm not familiar with C-Clip Eliminators, But i hear it makes disc brake compatibility a PITA...
Should i jump on this deal? How hard would it be to get disc brakes to work with them on the TC 8.8? (Junkyard Donors preferable).

I have not completely decided or bought any braking components for the rear yet, So most option available still~Although i was leaning towards cobra rear brakes.

Why are you even trying to build an 8.8 on your budget? Just how much power does your car put down? A stock 8.8 would probably do you just fine for a few years, and hopefully then you would be better off financially. With that $200 on those axles, you could get the front five lug swap taken care of.

Just saying man, obviously you can do whatever you want.

Granted, knowing that new eliminators go for $140, that is a pretty good deal. But there will be more!

I have the money (now) see my "im in shock thread" i ended up selling all the boxes, lol.

I'm still being a bit frugal though, So it will go far.
Anyway,
I'm in talks for spindles at $100, Then i've got sn95 11" front brakes/rotors i can use until i can get some cobra calipers for my cobra rotors.

Right now a V6 is in the car ;), But i have a 351w waiting on my stand.

I figured it was a great deal for the axles/eliminators~I'm itching to just say yes, But i'm unsure of how it will affect my braking options on the rear for an 8.8 TC. (i want discs, 5 lug)

I'll dive into google researching the matter, As did not have time yesterday.
But if anyone knows anything off the top of there heads, please LMK.

Oh,
And i've also got another source selling some "Ford Racing" 31 spline C-Clip Axles for 175.00 shipped.
I'm still trying to get better pics and info out him.

So i'm trying to decide between these 2 options as well as configurations.

Anyway,
So for the C-Clip Eliminators it looks like i would need to cut down the "Bearing Lip" on the ends of the axle housing and then bolt up.
But i'm not finding the info i'm looking for on disc brakes with this setup.

Update:
It's looking like i would need to fab up or buy something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180412953248&viewitem=
To use Mustang or TC Discs.

All-in-All It seems like alot of work, Possibly problematic with leaking, And very much limits brake options.
Also i keep reading how people just prefer putting 9" ends on there 8.8 instead.

So now my decision would basically be between Both of them still~
But, Not with the intent of using the eliminators.
So,
Between the 2, Which brand is better (Better Quality, Longer lasting, Nicer finish, Stronger, Etc)
The "Ford Racing" axles have abs rings, i would imagine the "Strange" axles do not. (However i have an '84 and do not have stock ABS)
I would imagine i could resell and recoup some money from the "Strange" c-clip eliminators.

I should have some pictures of the "ford racing" axles coming soon, None for the "strange" but more info should be coming.

I'm totally forgetting the axles with the eliminators more than likely don't have the tabs at the end to revert back to c-clip.

Here is the Ford Racing Axles:

3000 Miles Supposedly, From an SN95 Housing.

Anyone know if i could get Exploder Rear Brake setups to work on the TC 8.8?
This write up says they bolt right up with eliminators on the explorer housing, but what about the fox housing?
http://www.off-roadweb.com/tech/0911or_superior_axles_super_88_kit/index.html

I'm still up for going the eliminator route, As long as it does not add a huge drain on my funds or involve welding or milling.
Just still really unsure of brake options other than aftermarket, which i'm not interested in atm (expensive).

Heh, I keep forgetting you hit a windfall recently(I'm jealous). I read on Wiki I think that the eliminators are required in some drag racing classes, but you'd have to check it. I am currently content with my 7.5" w/ 3.73's and a Trac Loc, so I can't help on the 8.8 questions, sorry!

I stumbled across some of that track info on my searches:
Apparently most drag tracks require cars with an ET of 11.99 or less to use them as a safety precaution.

It's pretty much overkill atm for my setup, But i figure if i'm gonna do it, I might as well go overboard~Especially since the pricing is about the same.

Hey guys,
I'm pretty much decided on the Strange Axles w/ C-Clip Eliminators.

I asked about mileage/age, Seller says no miles~Only passes. :hick:
And that they aren't bent or broke, And that he stands by his sales.
He also says they have the newer taper style bearings on the eliminators (aren't these better for street use?).

Also, I found an insanely helpful thread over at corral, with info on my disc brake dilemma:
http://forums.corral.net/forums/showthread.php?t=446998&highlight=ranger+brake

Looks like all i would need to do is cut a slot out of a stock bracket and mount it differently.

So I'm pretty much gonna buy the elim axles unless someone gives me some good reasons why i shouldn't real soon. ;)

O.o
Apparently this is a no go.

I was under the impression the whole time that these were "Fox Length" axles.
I called him today since he would not answer my PM's, Only to find they are 26" both sides?...
What the heck even uses this length axle... a 9" maybe?

I assume i cant get these to work at all, Epic let down... :flame:

You think it's a little too overkill?
BTW, Welcome Back daboss~Havent seen you in awhile!

I want to it right the first time, And i scored a complete 31 spline 4.10 posi unit cheap at the junkyard is why i was going that direction.

I would like to hit the track at some point, Nothing too serious~Just for fun.

I've actually got a 3.73 posi unit on the shelf myself.

But yea...
If anyone needs some 26" length 31 spl strange axles w/ eliminators and only track passes for $200 shipped, I can connect you with a seller ~ sigh.

Ive been really busy. Bought a dodge......
But I mean if your planning to drop a 351w in there just NA, I wouldnt bother doing 31 spline. I think its safe to say it would be at least 2 years before you could think about needed those 31 splines. Just do the 5 lug swap with the 28 splines. Its still RIGHT, just keep the center, and build another rear and if one day you feel your almost to the end of the 28 splines strength, swap them. Thats my opinion man.
