Show me, if you have cut a hole

in your trunk to access the fuel pump.

And yes, the tank is full of 108.  I was planning on cutting it anyway, just happened ahead of schedule.  Now it's time to turn it into a proper access hatch.

i keep a spare Holley blue, 10' of 3/8" hose, and a 110v-12v converter for those situations. ;)

I'd cut the panel from a parts car slightly larger than the hole you'll have in your trunk floor, then your panel can have some overlap to it.Hinge it,seal it,whatever.

That's what I was going to do also, but after patching all the holes for a year, I can't bring myself to cut the only good un-rusted metal on my car. LOL

Ummm... that post starts off with "Topic: EVP on '85s?", and ends with a bad hose from the pump. I was kind of expecting a thread on cutting a hole in the trunk.

Yup, I cut a hole to access the pump.  Even with cutting the hole it was faster and easier than dropping the tank.  Now that I've got the hole, it's time to properly fix it.

If you were expecting an exciting tale of metallurgy, sorry to disappoint.  The surgery went pretty well, didn't even cut any fuel lines.

you should post up pics, for when the next person decides to do the same thing.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

When I do the other bird, I won't cut so much off.  The pink line is about where to stop.  Below the line stays on the car.  It will make the floor stronger and also make a nice place to mount a hinge.  Some tabs to keep it in place, a lock to keep it closed, some insulation to keep the weather out, and you'll be set.

actualy you could put that back in with some renforcement and do what you were thinking and it would be really strong. Basically cut off what you were talking then go in and build a small structure in there and hinge it and everything.

Cougar, that's a good idea.  But I'm not a welder, so someone else is going to have to do that for me.  The duct tape, even though it looks really classy, is just temporary.

ya know how you had the rubber tubing zipped tied on there you could use that as your seal against the weather. Ever think of using adhesives to put it together? just as good as welding when you don't have a welder. Do a search on it.
