alright how do i install my new thermostat? the cougar is overheating, it heats up real bad and then all of a sudden the coolant drains back into the system. weird. then it heats back up again and drains every so often.

and when i do replace it, how much antifreeze should i put in the car since im changing it as well

those are mn-12 capacities.... are they the same?

For '84 it's:
2.3L 10.8 qts
3.8L 11.7 qts
5.0L 14.2 qts

By the way, since you didn't answer in your other thread, when you put the ignition in run without starting, what does the fuel pump do.

also, where is the drain plug for the radiator, i cant seem to find it.

It's on the lower passenger side.

drain should be on the pass lower side.  Good luck using it thougth, just leave your rad cap off so the rad can get air to drain.

It's gonna be a PITA to crack open (without breaking it) if it aint been used in a while...

ok,, ill guess your in harrisburg PA?

Ill also guess its cold outside and thats where the car would be worked on.

Ill also guess the radiator is factory.??
If it is the original one, the pet pen 15 valve will be like a metal wing nut.  These type if you can get to drain are best because there is a round opening which a hose can be stuffed over and you can drain it more directly into an old antifreeze jug. 

if its got a plastic wing nut, have fun.  You gotta loosen it up and then at that magic point, it will start draining. 

if it never drains, its clogged.
