I'm wondering if I'm the only person that's ever torn into a car to do a project and then at some point thought, "OMFG there is no way this is ever going to run again."

The interior (and the trunk view in the electrical section) is the latest cause for the latest episode extreme doubt in "Project Mission Creep: The Neverending Bird"

My uncle drug his 69 Caprice 427 from a grassy field with no engine or tranny. 4 years later...

Hey,other than the front fenders,doors,and body,all of my car has been replaced.ALL of it.Just pay attention to what you're doing,and if it's going to be a while before re-assembly,bag and tag everything.Zip Loc bags are awesome.I use the freezer bags because they have the little tag to write on.

hmmmmm.....uh, yep. with the purchase of the 4-eyed '83 bird, i officially have abandoned project "money pit". and i was almost to the point of firing the engine back up, but once it started leaking water into the interior, i just dont have it in me anymore to go thru and finish it. will prolly rob the new parts back off of it for the '83 and part it out, unless i can find some one to take it as is...

hmm I have no idea what happened. To get a feel for it, just go to any forum where I've posted a question because I'm stuck.

Right now, the interior is as gutted a possible and still be driven. The dash and the driver's seat are all that remain. The trick is to do everything that I want done and only do it once.

A lot of plastic wrap works too

I can relate to the tear apart aspect.
I think I can safely say, I've replaced the most of any car on the board so far. and I'm not done tearing it apart. :hick:

I pulled the dash out of my '87 to krylon it. I thought I would never get it back together, what with all the wires and how they were routed.

The first time I pulled a turbo was quite an awakening experience as well. I was scared as hell, but somehow I got it back in one piece.

For me, there have been many occasions where I could have begun to wonder if I would finish the project (engine swap, trans swap, interior swap, etc.).
However, the only one which made me stand back and say "oh !" was when I replaced the control arms in my front suspension. This was the sight which triggered that reaction:

I think it was the realization that the car was unable to move until I finished the job, which triggered that response. With all of my other major projects, I could at least push the car to a different location.

You just never know. You may be around when I do put it together

A lot of my project is relocation and modding.
My first thought was to just fix the car, but then that led to SFCs, which led to jacking rails and X braces, which led to Chuck's seat supports, which now has me eyeing up the T5 and rear out of the TC at the J/Y. This project keeps getting deeper. LOL

I'm starting to think, even if I had bought another car to replace this one. I still would have ripped it apart to add everything.

But it still makes me wonder how many extra pieces I'll have left over.

My Oh S#%T moment usually happens when I get done with a project, then stand back and look at it, then either look at the leftover parts sitting next to the car, or then have a better idea that would have made the mod easier/look better etc.

I feel the same way. i'm in the process of removing a 3.8l from an 88 and putting in a stock 5.0 form a 1987. The motor is out of both cars and I'm at the point where I'm thinking nothing will ever go back together and run.

Everyone here has done H.O. swaps so the information is different.

We shall see.
