Could you get a 88 cougar come with a factory HO Reply #18 – July 27, 2008, 12:54:52 AM Sometimes it amazes me what some of you know right off hand about these cars. Don't get me wrong, I love the foxes, but I have no idea where they were built, every possible option, etc... I'm glad there's a resource for all this stuff somewhere should I ever end up on the millionaire show and have to make a phone call about the subject. Quote Selected

There was a brief workers strike at the Lorain plant in '97 and Ford had a contingency plan with the Lincoln-exclusive Wixom plant. I think it was something like a 4-6 week thing only. Not that that would add value to a car...but it would have been cool if someone "accidentally" installed the Mark VIII aluminum suspension components in a T-Bird or Cougar. I don't think that was possible...just wishful thinking...QuoteSometimes it amazes me what some of you know right off hand about these cars. I don't think that was possible...just wishful thinking...Yep... One of my cousins worked at Norfolk assembly(was the line maintenances supervisor) and in '94 on a personal tour for myself and a friend, pointed to a rear end and said, Chuck(his son) wanted that in his truck but it's not avail except in Diesels... I said "Lee you couldn't arrange that"??? He said "Nope, would screw up inventory and would be Hell to pay in the front office"...So here's a case where the part is right there on the line, but not avail... So if no 5.0 HOs were even used at the point of assembly(talking '86-'88) it sure isn't likely one accidentally was slipped in... Lets say in case it did happen, which exhaust system was used??? No Tbird/Coug ever used a "H" pipe and the iron exhaust manifolds don't fit the Stang(or LSC) pipe... The manifolds are part of the engine when shipped from it's assembly point, would have had to been specially prepared or swapped at the final assembly point... Also what about the EEC??? That too would need special handling... Basically it boils down to anyone who thinks a HO was in any Bird/Coug, doesn't have a clue... Quote Selected
