very cool, you are the first on the board to swap in a 6speed (successfully, as far as I know), need all the info on what was required for it, LOL.  why didn't you paint the engine bay while it was out?

No, it doesn't seem very torquey at all. It's quite the opposite really. Don't get me wrong, it's got torque. It just has WAY more top end. I don't have the flow numbers infront of me but I think it was 215-220cfm @ .550" lift with the intake bolted on the head. It will be much more fun to drive with better rear gears.

The E-cam has less low end grunt than your 266 cam Tjet....

VERY  good lookin engine!!!  Those flow #'s are awesome for GT-40's!

I thought the E cam would have some low end grunt. I know it has more duration than my cam but I didn't think it gave up that much low end vs my cam. My setup pulls hard all the way up to the 5,000 rpm shift point.

I bet that gears (I have 3.73s in mine) help too......

So are you going with a 4.10 rear now that you got another gear? Whats the ratios on the gears?

I took it out again and yeah, it's got plenty of torque. It just doesn't feel right with the 2.73 rear gears. The E cam does have some grunt to it but it pulls very hard all the way to my rev-limiter. I have an Accel 300+ ignition box with a built-in rev-limiter that was set at 5500 when I hit it. I have since turned it up to 6250 and have not hit that yet. Still working on the Autometer Tach and Speedo.

I might step up to a 4.10 and an Auburn diff after I get the TC rear in and do some running around with the 3.55s for a while. I used to own a 1984 Z28 that had 3.73 rear gears and a 2.95 first gear in the T-5 (that is what my T-56 has) and I liked the way that felt. That car had a 305 with a larger cam and I felt no need to regear. 3.55 is so close that I don't think I would feel much of a difference between that and 3.73 so if I do change it it would go to 3.89 or 4.10 I don't want to go too low though.

Thanks Vinnie. How do you like the E cam with 3.55 gears? I think you probably have a lower first gear in the transmission than I do.

Ask anyone who's put one in an E7 head 302 with less than a 3.55 gear.....they are usually angry about the situation..... Porting heads and a gear swap help as does a converter.

Porting can take away some low end torque.  You increase the port size and at low air flows your air velocity decreases and you can loose some swirl effect.  Of course it breathes better at higher revs.

The E-cam is good just wish it was a little better low end cam but i got it for $80 so when i get my Supercharger put on it i am sure i will be more happy with my E303 cam.

Also your T-Bird looks great i bet the T56 will be nice but i am Lazy so i will stay with a AOD.

As I stated for E7's it's not the best choice.....With the ported GT-40's and 1.7's the engine naturally wants to go into the cam's powerband sooner than with E7 heads.  It fits better.
Some gear and a stall, subframes, and a strut tower brace and call it done, IMHO.

I love the cam,but I still have the stock Mustang converter in the tranny although the tranny has a shift kit installed, which I think holds the car back a little and it shifts around 4500.The car runs strong, really strong. The more I push the gas pedal, the better the car likes it.I think once I pull the AOD and install my 5 speed, the engine will really be a lot happier, and I'll see more of what the engine has to offer. The 3.55's are great for just everything (in my own opinion).Decent gas mileage, good performance.I have a chance to buy an 8.8 with 3.73's for $150.00.I may.I still have the 3.55 rear I bought two weeks ago I wanted to use.I've got some deciding to do.YET then, with a 5 speed, the 3.73's may be better than I think for the Sport. We'll see.
