oh, i can field this one.  :flame:

i would imagine there was never a time that this board was unmoderated, but rather a time when the users here acted in ways that didnt require moderation.

the old board was unmoderated for most of its life.  There were absolutely no problems until people made them problems.

Case and point - I got an "infraction" for posting a smiley.

Dude just drop it. No one is meaning to pick on you. It would suck if you left. You have more to offer to this board then most people ever have. This is a good board, its just having growing pains. People just take it all too seriously.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

I dont know whats visible and whats not visible to the public within a profile.  All i know is that the phone call was to say "how was the holiday and such and the subject about the military thread got brought up.  I told them i had that infraction , they did not say they saw it.  No one that i am aware of is hacking anything.  So since i said none of that, you should know not to call my  family liers.
So wait a minute here. YOU tell your family members that YOU recieved an infraction, then you gripe that WE are damaging your reputation? It was YOU who said:
Quote
What you mods do not understand is that my personal reputation is being advertised here and my family across the country keep an eye on this site.
So tell me, Scott, who is doing that "advertising"?
Quote
If my personal profile does not contain info about infractions,, then how could jeremyb see the infraction was reversed?  Im just asking,, and trying to not make enyone upset.
those are your words thunderchicken,, not mine.
Quite simple. Jeremy has semi-moderator status. He cannot close threads, ban people, etc, but he can do some things.
Quote
Aerobirds military status was appreciated by me in that thread.  I just wanted him to clairfy his many many posts from previous topics where he said "i am also a retired armed forces vet" because i thought for sure he could not have been that old.  Then he explained and i learned someting new.  He implies in various posts that he basically gave uncle sam 20 plus years and never come out and says it although ive asked.  Since your not aware of the US military system, its not your fault.  I suppose that based on a lot of his "partial truths" ive noticed in his past, i was not going to let him take the ranks he implies without explaination.

For your informaiton, "Retired" is traditionally recognized as a person who gave all thier best years to the country.
Oh, really?
Quote from: jcassity
You did not retire. Hope you dont take the wrong but when you say you retired,, and did not,, that takes something away from those who really did.
That does not look like appreciation to me. It looks like derision, like you consider him below your definition of "retired" military. Then you went on to trivialize his medals. They may not mean much to you, but they obviously mean a lot to him, as does his military service. You were out of line with your comments.
Quote
I also pointed giving details about current command missions is not in the best interest of national security as poorly as it may be,,
Not once did i bash him on anything.  Those are your words, not mine thunderchicken. and still do not knwo the basis of it.
I've just pointed out how you bashed him. I'd like to see how anybody can take your post as anything other than bashing. As for the pointing out that posting mission info is bad: I agree, but that's not what started this mess.
Quote
"screw you guys, im going home
Again, these are your words thunderchicken, not mine.
No, Scott, they're your words. 1 WLD BRD has already pointed that out, so I won't bother quoting it again.
Quote
I was told by another member that three points and your banned.
These are my words.  I guess i learned something but it would have been helpful to have cleared that up when i brought it to the attention of you previously thunderchicken et all.
I don't know who gave you that info, and you did not bring it to my attention that you thought three points got you banned. You should have known better anyway - in the history of this board there have been exactly two bannings. The very fact that the banning threshold would require 100 people to give you an infraction within two days shows that banning people is not the desired result. The infraction system exists ONLY to let members know that they're doing wrong.
Quote
Im allowed to "deride" him cause ive been there and done that so its between us sailors, not you.  Whatever deride means.
your implications,, not mine thunderchicken
The moment you posted in a public forum it became between you and everyone who read your post. Then you pretty much begged for me to become involved by starting this thread and the one Zach closed. That being said, you are not allowed to "deride" anybody, and I fail to see the satisfaction you would get from doing so to begin with. The fact that you've served longer than Mike does not take away from Mike being proud of his service.
Quote
Im not picking on you TC,, its just that you and others claim "IVE SAID' a lot and still cant read.  Not nit picking but say what you mean and mean what you say.  You say ive said things then cant back it up to save your lives.  Stop saying i say things i dont.
IT only pushes buttons.
I've backed up every claim I made with a quote from you. I'm not making anything up. As for pushing buttons, I'm rather certain that was your intention when you started this thread. Sometimes when you push a button it pushes back.
Quote
To the rest that replied,, why?  i asked that this be kept to the mods , instead i point out again,,
Attention to detail.

and to shose who replied with bashing,,  dont color the kettle black.
As somebody pointed out, if you don't want public input don't make public statements.

now back to my regularly schduled control arm bushings since i just now got back from pressing them in.  updates to follow.
Have fun. Hope yours go easier than mine did.

Now for those who miss the good ol' days: Yes, it's true that this forum was traditionally unmoderated. Back when we only had about 200 active members that was fine. Unfortunately, over the past year or so, problems have been occurring with more and more frequency. Eric, Baxo, and myself could not handle the constant whining and PM's from member A complaining about member B, so we decided to enlist some help. It has actually gotten to the point that I rarely even check my PM's because I don't want to read a bunch of whining.

We put together a shortlist of what we considered upstanding members and picked a few out as moderators. Knowing that moderators would have their hands full as well but not wanting to have several dozen moderators, we added a few "semi-moderators" who could let people know they've done wrong.

Think of it like this: As a community grows it needs to add police officers to keep the peace. The remarkable (and depressing) amount of infighting going on in this once peaceful message board, which is driving members away at an alarming rate, is proof that we needed to do something.

...and to clarify it for everyone: Unless you really fvck up (IE rip somebody off, post spam, continuously insult other members or make derogatory threads, posts, etc), receiving an infraction does absolutely NOTHING to lower your status in this board. Nobody will even know about it except you and the person that "infracts" you. The infraction system exists only as a way to let somebody know that they're stepping out of line.

There, now that was easy enough. As I stated, shake hands (so to speak),man up,and move on.A lot of time has been wasted that could've been put to better use doing something else.I have said this before.I have thought of this forum a little tighter than most I have been to,and everyone should be able to be a productive part of the "family".Think before you speak.Be gracious, and enjoy what we have at this forum. This is a lot better than those poor losers who drive Civics and brag about the new stickers for their windshield.

grow up you fricking cry baby!!!  ITs a good  message board!!!!....  LMFAO!

wasnt you a while back at random just decided to call me a post w,,lol:D
I took that as a funny and so in return for said funny, i clicked on your name simply replied back to the latest three posts you started.  One of the threads was about some sort of wheel you were working on.

i typed "post w" in all three and thought you would grasp the playfull nature. This is back when my son was interested in a TC and i show your blue car to him cause i love what you did.

instead what happened?  i heard it through the grapevine on IM,, "whats that jcassity's problem" coming from you indirectly.  You get so inmature that you resolved to send me negative reputation..  I was astonishished bevcause i thought you were just jerking my chain and i wanted to jerk back playfully.

Now , i would deduce without any outside influence that you are some sort of MOD.  WHY?,,,, because for the first time in well over a year, i went to my control panel a couple days ago.  I then noticed there were negative reputation(s) from recent then yours way way back from that wheel thread.

Fast forward to the recent two days.  That negative reputation dissappeared from you only.

Then it dawns on me,, hummm,,, he realizes that he cant call me a whinner ,,,,while looking like a whinner to the other mods.

sorry, just had to point that out.

CougarSE,, you've always had some sort of hard on for me anyways,, i deal with it and most of the time your point is in your post no matter how agressive you get a lot of the time.  I just take it cause thats the way you are,,although recently not i can see.

This is what I'm talking about. It's not a competition to see who can dredge up what about who and pick apart everything a person says or has said about any given subject just to prove a point to see who is or isn't right. It's like children saying "Is not","is too","is not","is too".I also believe it's a little rediculous to hear something you don't care to hear, and then spend your time going back over an individuals past posts to see what you can "get" on them."Oh yeah, well back a year ago you said...(fill in the blank)".Does it really have to get THAT nit picky?I believe that when you're willing to go to such lengths to make that kind of point,it's looking for trouble,or,and arguement. There's too much "reacting",and not enough "responding".Because someone says something you don't like,or disagree with doesn't automatically make it an attack on your personal character.Do you know what character even is?It is,how you conduct yourself when no-one is watching or around, not what you do or say in front of everyone.Take care of your own backyard and enjoy the forum.

Wow, 3 pages worth in just one day?  If I woulda been around to pay closer attention to this board yesterday I would have put a stop to this sooner than this third page.

All the energy that went into this thread could have been used to make the world a better place.
