Apparently, there's no trunk lids to be found in the world. LOL
so here's the rebuild.

First, here my painted gas tank

5.0 HO 306 roller block, machined GT-40P heads, Wiseco dished forged pistons, Eagle forged floating I-beam connecting rods, Lunati pushrods, ARP bolts, Scorpion aluminum 1.6 rockers, Comp Cams Magnum 266HR, Explorer intake, 65mm TB, MAF Conversion, 19# injectors, Ford Racing stainless P-headers, 2-1/2" cat-less exhaust w/ Flowtech Afterburner lers , SC AOD with 2800 BDR torque converter, 3.73 T-Lok rear, CHE rear control arms, full 2-1/2" frame w/1" jacking rails & seat supports, Rear disk brakes, Turbine wheels, All original interior w/ floor shift upgrade .......
Pretty much every panel on my 87 is new, rebuilt, or re constructed. :D

Man I can't believe there aren't any good trunk lids left.  Nice work.

Here's the finishing of the trunk lid








And then after that, I had to put the tail lights in to make sure everything is going to line up


and then I had to do some pounding to make it fit better


here's how it ended up at the end of the project.


not only does it curve across the back, it also curves top to bottom.  :hick:


then I ground down the rest of the welds. Filler is the next step.


Next up........... finishing the passenger side rocker panel after this intermission ..........


I noticed my neighbor coming home from a car show in the distance.


Now back to our project..............


It always amazes me when I look under my car..... I had to take a pic or 2




I never finished the bottom of the rocker when I put the quarter panel on. Can't remember the reason, but it's the last piece on the entire car that needs to be welded before the body work can start.

You painting the car before the engine goes in jerry????
I'd say put it in first get it running then paint the body.
Saves you possibly scratching the paint.

It'll be ok. The fenders won't go on until it's running. All the edges will be taped and protected as it goes back together...(painting it all separate)
I'd like to have it painted soon, so I could put it outside temporarily if I needed.

lol. my father in law is building a 68 camaro and itd going to have a 427 bored 30 over so its going to be a 433 and he is hoping it carrys the frount wheeles a good distance.

todays update
I cleaned the outer candy shell of the gas tank.


Thinking this wasn't really the color I was going for when I started this project...............


And pondering what I should do about the transmission situation.
C6 from the bird?




Or AOD from the 3.8?
If I use the AOD, I read that the 3.8 DS wont fit with the 5.0
But I do have a DS for the C6. Which I didn't realize was so much shorter.


I'm thinking there must already be a shift kit in the C6, seeing that it had a ratchet shifter in it.
Hmmmmmmm.
OK guys, I need some feedback on this.

If it was me, I would use the C6 and the ratchet shifter, but what do I know. :hick::hick:

If it's for cruising,I like an AOD for the extra gear.

I don't think I really need OD in the 87. It won't be a cruising car anymore.
