Keypad Entry? + Illuminated Locks July 18, 2007, 12:50:43 PM Well the driver door i just got from the JY has a Keypad setup on it, My car did not come with that option.Is it possible for me to still use the keypad with some wiring?And,Both doors also have illuminated locks, I've already re-keyed one of them to work with my key.But, When exactly do they light up? Instead of being separate as in the std systems, the door lock/unlock relays are in it, as is the lighted entry circuity...I wired up a '98 Taurus remote system to my TC... Alot of other things ahead in line on the list of things to do. :punchballs:But when i do get around to it, I'll have my seats, Carpet, Headliner, Dash and basicly 90% of my interior being changed out, So maybe that will help a bit with the wiring.Thanks for posting how you did yours! No chance I'd go to all the effort to install an original system without remote when a late module will operate the relays already in the car... I did mine piddling around a couple afternoons... All the connections needed are in the glove box area, RTV'd the Taurus controller to the heater plenum... Remotes have 200/250 ft range... Sometimes more...I even have a garage door opener transmitter tied into the output that normally opens the passenger door(both my doors lock/unlock at once due to the original relay connections)... And try and come up with a remote setup in the meantime, It's gonna bug me until it works though, heh.The doors are off a Heritage, And believe me, if i could have bought that car out of the yard, i would have (They don't allow it/Titles belong to the state and are trashed or something).Had almost every option you could think of.Now it's nearly stripped and getting ready to go to the crusher. Keypad Entry? + Illuminated Locks Reply #12 – July 21, 2007, 10:35:53 PM Well i checked out some keypad stuff while i was at the yard today looking for a starter...There was an MN12 T-Bird with a keypad and power locks, But in the trunk it had 2 boxes - A big one and small plastic cased one.Clueless as to which controlled the keypad i grabbed the small plastic cased one since it was easy to get out and brought it home, Got it for free.Still dont know if it controls the keypad or not, lol. I thought someone said the late model T-Birds had a seperate setup for the keypad, But i think i got that confused with a taurus.As for the '83, It also had 2 boxes mounted in the middle of the trunk... A big and a smaller...The big one with like 28 wires controls the keypad and relays i assume? The smaller one has about 12 wires. Quote Selected

There is a switch operated by the door handle.On cars without keyless entry there is an illuminated entry timer module to keep the light on for 25 seconds.With keyless entry is uses the keyless entry module. So i picked up the entire large box from out of the '83 minus the harness as i didn't feel like taking the seats and carpeting out to get to it...I'm pretty sure this is the one that controls everything from the door locks to the keypad to the lock lights.I'm not positive still though as my manuals are not helpful with this, And i do not have the full wiring diagram manuals. :flame: Quote Selected
