Y- pipe June 18, 2007, 01:16:57 AM I'm thinking about putting a Y-pipe on my 88 3.8. What are the advantages and disadvantages? Quote Selected
Y- pipe Reply #1 – June 18, 2007, 11:00:52 PM Ummmmm.... don't you already have one? It's the "Y" shaped thing that joins the left and right manifolds, and takes the exhaust gasses to the convertor. Far left item in this pic, marked "N.A.".Perhaps you were thinking of another letter in the alphabet?:dunno: Quote Selected
Y- pipe Reply #4 – June 19, 2007, 08:55:24 AM To answer your question, there is no disadvantage to putting duals on a 3.8... in the form that MasterBlaster put up in his last post. One of my friends did it and his c'87 cat and at idle it sounded like a 5.0. It was nice. Quote Selected
Y- pipe Reply #5 – June 19, 2007, 12:39:22 PM I had the factory cat-back V8 system on my V6 before I swapped engines. I didn't really notice a power gain, but it sounded and looked better than the single exhaust. Once piece of advise though, don't use loud lers, because the Ford 3.8L doesn't sound that great with loud lers. Quote Selected
Y- pipe Reply #6 – June 19, 2007, 02:17:29 PM I was thinking Flowmasters bc my dad knows a guy at meineke that can get a discount. Quote Selected
Y- pipe Reply #7 – June 19, 2007, 02:22:14 PM eh 6's usually dont sound that great on flows, but if they are cheap do it Quote Selected
Y- pipe Reply #8 – June 19, 2007, 06:57:56 PM I have a single flow in there now from about 3 years ago..sounds like an 8..everybody asks.." That's the 5.0 right"? LOL. Quote Selected
Y- pipe Reply #9 – June 19, 2007, 07:02:38 PM well then do it, but why not do true duals? Quote Selected
Y- pipe Reply #10 – June 19, 2007, 07:03:25 PM Why not just get a real dual exhaust system bent up? Use 2.25" tubing at the most and you'll get a bit of power without loosing low end torque:D Quote Selected
Y- pipe Reply #11 – June 20, 2007, 09:07:06 AM I couldn't even imagine how much true duals would cost..:/ Quote Selected
Y- pipe Reply #12 – June 20, 2007, 11:36:54 PM There's a guy by me that'll bend up a whole system without cats for ~$350. Quote Selected
Y- pipe Reply #13 – June 24, 2007, 06:11:12 PM There's a guy in the town I live in, that said he would do it from the exhaust manifolds back (without cats) for $250 with glass packs Quote Selected
