TBI to Carb Progress Pics. (Almost Done!)

Just the basic setup before we did anything

Everything Taken Out :hick:

Setup on the table.

Holley 600, Edelbrock Performer, Lokar Throttle Cable and AOD Kickdown Bracket and Cable.

Everything on there. Edelbrock Air Cleaner. All the linkage is hooked up except the actual lever to the pedal which I have to get a smaller ball joint for. See all the  in the heads! I recommend everyone takes their Valve covers off and cleans the carbon and  off them hahaha. Getting Edelbrock Chrome Valve Covers Tomorrow.

The Mac Daddy!

Beautyfull.  Even though I ditched my plans for a carb, I can still appreciate a well-executed carb swap.  Lokar FTW!

Thanks! It was actually really easy. I'm sure 84 Fila could tell you the same. I just gotta hook up the fuel line and the distributor now.

But yeah lokar really makes it all work without a problem.

I am thinking about ditching the A/C as it kinda throws off the look of the engine. (just a big bulky thing up front ehh.) Plus it does not really work right now even though I am sure it just needs a recharge.

As far as the air cleaner. Thanks man I will be careful about that. I got that one because it looks cool/reusable but the main reason it because it flows well and hood clearance.

Nice!

I'm thinking about doing this but if I do I'm going to paint the intake so it kind of looks stock.

A word of advice about the sludge in the cylinder heads: Unless you can prevent it from getting into the oil drainback holes, leave it. I've seen more than one engine eat itself because somebody had the top end apart and decided to clean things up. All that  gets into the oil pan, plugs the pickup screen, and voila - no oil.

I had one of those filters on my '80 Formula. Sleeper is right - they do not like carb backfires. Mine burned to a crisp - one of two engine fires in that car - the other one was when I sprayed "wire dryer" on the plug wires to get it started in a rainstorm. Wire dryer
burns quite vigourously when ignited by an errant spark...

Thanks for the advice thunder chicken. I have been very careful about getting sludge in the holes We have been putting shop towels over them while cleaning the sludge. You can actually see that in them in the second picture.

What kind of oil do you use? Pennzoil usually creates alot of sludge like that.

Mine was at the same mileage when we did the HO conversion, and it was real clean under the valve covers as well.
