Does anyone have a color breakdown by year?

Just wondering if anyone has info by year of exterior and interior colors, or any other options for that matter.

I found a gold '86 TC with a 5spd and fairly nice tan interior close by.  Front end is nose-high, I think it's missing an engine.  Maybe I can get it for cheap, but I don't think I've seen another gold TurboCoupe that wasn't an '87-88 - and those seem rare too.

Rumor has it that Kevin Marti, who bought all of Ford's official records for the 1960s and 1970s vehicles and now sells that information to anyone, also bought the 1980s vehicle information. I cannot confirm this rumor yet. If it's true, though, we should be able to get things like option and color breakdowns. But as of right now there is no such information available to us.

If and when we do get the 1980s info, I will work diligently to get the news out to everyone.

It was a really pale gold, not near champagne or brown.

This is the color, I'm pretty sure.  I've never seen an '83-86 this color that I know of.



But maybe I just haven't been observant enough. :D

I've seen that color on 85-86's I think.

You should be able to find out exterior colors from a good paint shop. Thay should have year by year break downs of what was avaliable from Ford. Just bring in the paint code and year and they can tell you what color it is. Now the interior colors are a different story. Most upholstery shops have books with auto company color samples in them. Now the trick is finding one that has books dating back to the 1980s:grinno:
88 Thunderbird LX: 306, Edelbrock Performer heads, Comp 266HR cam, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, bunch of other stuff.

The real trick is finding companies that still deal with fabrics from the 1980s. ;) By now, most of the OE patterns and materials have been long discontinued. That's why generic subsititutes, or using vinyl instead of leather, are common today.

BTW, the shop I use has books from 1978. I must be one of the lucky ones. ;)

I have never...ever...seen exterior color breakdowns for our cars.

For '83-'84 there was Desert Tan (like Chuck's)
For '85-'86 there was Sand Beige
For '87-'88 there was Light Sandlewood

When I was at the dealership, I sold a very nice used 1986 Thunderbird V6 to a good friend of mine that was Sand Beige and in my opinion that color was nearly identical to the Light Sandlewood.

Has anyone else seen a Thunderbird in Dark Sage (green)
Another friend of mine has a 1985 Thunderbird that is Dark Sage with a tan interior, it's a very nice looking color combo. He is the original owner and it is in showroom condition.

From my mint collection of all of the 83-88 TBird and TC brochures. The letters behind the paint color are the availbe interior colors with that exterior color. The interior color acronyms are below each years exterior color list. The * next to the pait color denotes a clearcoat metallic paint.

I guess dads TC is a rare car since its color combination isnt listed..  its white with grey cloth.

Wrongo. That would be Oxford White with the Raven/Charcoal if it's an 87 or 88.

It's an 83 TC IIRC.....

On a side note...it looks like the 84TC's were available with the Light Desert Tan metallic with the charcoal interior....just what I was planning  :D
