New to the NASCAR Track - Camry???

Well, back on track here...the Toyota/NASCAR thing is a little strange, but given Toyota's relentless drive to be ubiquitous, it's hardly surprising. It will probably be another success story for them, as it seems to happen with most everything they touch. As my dad says, they can fall in shiznit and come out smelling like roses. I honestly believe that Toyota wants to be the Micro$oft of the car world: everywhere, universal, the "norm". Except you'd be a lot safer when a Toyota crashes. ;) I guess if Americans keep buying Toyotas like they are now, their wish will come true. I'm starting to see a lot more cotton heads driving Toyotas now...when dammit all to hell, they should be annoying me in a Buick instead. How I long for the good old days when you could absolutely depend on the crusties buying an Olds or Buick or Town Car to clog up the highways...*sigh*

ugh.

one: toyota is more american than most of the big three anymore and most of the profits stay right here in the good ol' usa.

two: I was a huge nascar fan in the 80's. lived in brooklyn Michigan (MIS) and was actually friends for a short period with Bill Elliots daughter Star and rode in the record setting T-bird from '84 around a couple blocks in Brooklyn. The sport has changed, and not necessarily for the better. They should just call it "Company sposored IROC". they have to be safe, but there should be some differences in the cars, I rather just watch scca racing any more than nascar.

3: as long as they are making money though, and the races (even if IROC like) are still an absolute BLAST to go to live, the power and speed of those cars is amazing.

4: of course american cars are in puppiesanese "drifting" (or what I like to call, rally driving on nothing but tarmack with no times and overly exagerated corners), they are the only high HP real wheel drive cars left.

and with that, an overpowering blandness that infects every one of their cars.

I don't deny that they're great cars, but I can't comprehend who is buying all of them.  Projected to sell more cars than GM?  Where are they all going?

So the new car will be LESS aerodynamic?

Hell, if they're so worried about aerodynamics, why not just bring back the late 70's Thunderbird and Monte Carlo body style :giggle:

think toyota is bad? NASCAR big wigs want to make all the cars have the same body, chassis ect, save for the engine, nose piece, and decals...IT SUCKS...when I think nascar I see Bill Elliott and a '86, '87 T-bird burning up the track, or Petty in his Super Bee.

This year I guess is supposed to be the last year before the change...I can't wait to see how the fusion package does...I'm still an Elliott fan, but hoping for Martin to win the title

yeah most GM,Toyota,Saab,Subaru,Hyundia, and think maybe honda use the same platform...it's wierd...Saab with camry body *the new 9-5* you look @ the rear doors, upper C pillers, and you can tell...

yeah toyota is american for the most part now...all the offices are here ect...using GM parts...

Well if you consider that I pass about 15 houses as I pull into my neighborhood leading to my house and I pass 3 2004 toyota camry's the exact same model and color as the 2004 camry I bought for my wife that sits in my driveway, and among those 15 driveways sits no less than 6 older camry models and only one house has two camrys.  So thats 9 out of 15 houses right there if you count mine for a single automaker.  I don't have a problem buying a new toyota because my neighbor (one of the camry owners) works at our local plant along with 2 of my relatives and 3 other friends of mine.

As far as toyota getting into nascar as stated previously it is no more than marketing for them.  I think Jim is right on this though.  It should be "stock" cars.  I guess that wouldn't be as fun, i don't know, but they could stick each automakers best full production sports car out there and let er eat.

Oh yeah, that tv you watch NASCAR on is made in China as well as the the computer you use.  lol

Hmm stock car racing. Why can't they go back to racing STOCK CARS!? If that was the case the Charger would be kicking everyones ass because it's the only V8 rwd car that's "racing" in NASCAR right now.
