regarding my headlight switch!!!!!!!

hey a while back when i was coming out of work .... i happen to get in my 87 cougar and turn my head lights on ...and they decided to not come on, but when i pulled back the high beam switch the high beams came on but wouldnt lock in place cuz the regular lights wouldnt come on only amber lights. I now have it where when i turn my car on, i have my high beams  running all the time when the ignition is turned ..... so i was wondering, do i just need a headlight switch ? ....if any1 knows what part i need please msg me back ...if u have the part i need let me kno what u want for it too :)  thanks

Its the dimmer/turn signal switch in the column. Cost about $40 at oreilly auto . Part numbers Borg Warner: DS130, A/c Delco:F6254A  Also sometimes it is just gummed up  inside the switch. Try to spray it out with contact cleaner. Then spray in some white lithium grease. Also in case you don't know the arm is pulled stright out. hope this helps.
