Suggestions for CJ07

In order to avoid similar difficulties with the Saturday dinner portion of the event (as suffered by some, this year and last year), I'd like to suggest that we go somewhere that's equipped to handle large numbers of people. Perhaps taking the whole server part of the equation and chucking it out the window would be best.

How about a buffet-type restaraunt like Golden Corral?

I have heard a few people suggest that as well. I have no opposition to that. However, I will state a few facts:

- Golden Corral is on the north side of Rt. 224. There is no left turn into the parking lot. Coming from the mall, we would need to make a left turn to get there. So that means we'd have to go past the restaurant, go down the hill, turn around somewhere (provided we can find a lot big enough for 30+ cars to do that), then get back out into traffic, go up the hill and into the lot.

- When we leave, there is only a right turn out of the lot. We need to turn left to go to the hotels. Again, we'd have to turn right, turn around, head back down the hill in the direction of the hotels.

This was the logistical problem that I struggled with this year, in trying to get our group together in one establishment. Believe me, I'd thought of Golden Corral. The GC parking lot is big enough for us, no doubt. The idea of serving yourself definitely would eliminiate the problems we've had. But getting there, and out of there, could be a big mess.

First of all, that part of Rt. 224 right in front of GC is very, very dangerous as there are always accidents in that spot. That was the main reason why I dismissed GC this year. I did not feel that it was worth sacrificing all these beautiful cars just to eat dinner. I was keeping the entire group in mind.

Plus, after planning this event for a year, and with Saturday being as hectic as it is for me...dammit, I want someone to wait on my ass! LOL! Seriously, it's cool to self serve but it's not often that I eat at a restaurant out in Boardman. It's just nice to relax after a hectic day and not have to make trips up to the buffet, wait in line, etc. Maybe that's just me, I don't know.

Also, I've noticed that people, being people, don't always use the sneeze guard, finger the food and put it back, and probably touch the food without washing their hands in the restroom. Not just at GC but everywhere there is a buffet. Unless fresh food is put out right before me, I tend to shy away from buffets....it's a personal thing, and I think I'm probably not alone in feeling that way. I'm just a little leery about buffets and the general public.

However...I am a fair dude and will give more thought to Golden Corral for next year. Another business is currently being built next to it, and it's possible that there will be a better access road to get in and out of that area. So I'll have to wait and see when it's finished.

A few others suggested the food court at the mall. I love that idea. And it would be perfect...if the Chili's show wasn't from 6-9pm, and the mall didn't close at 9pm.

Also...and keep this on the back burner...with the way that the mall is manhandling the Valley Cruzers and their contract, the club may just pull up stakes and move the show to another venue. I spoke with them about this...they don't want to do that, but they may have to eventually. We won't know this until next spring, around April. So I can't plan things until we know where we're going to be. In any event, Valley Cruzers welcome us with open arms and we will always have space at their show. It's just that we don't know where that show will be. I will, of course, keep everyone updated about that situation.

That's the thing...if we rent St. Andrews Hall out at Angels For Animals, we technically could do that for Saturday night. We have to cater that hall anyway. That would solve the problems greatly. It's only a 25-minute drive from the mall to Angels' facility.

The down side is, if you noticed, there was a TON of activity to set up the pavilion at the park. Lots of setup, lots of tear down, most of it oblivious to you (as it should be). If we got that hall on Saturday, that would mean some people that set up wouldn't be able to attend the Chili's show at all, because they'd be going from the park to the hall to take care of things. I don't think that I, or my friends, or my family, could be able to handle two catered events in the same day. They work too hard at just the park event. I couldn't dare ask them to do that again a few hours after the park event is over! They'd have my frickin' head. ;) That's sort of why I suggested the semi-formal dinner for Friday night, so we'd at least have a night's rest between catered events.

Things like this weigh very heavily on my shoulders for CJ, and usually it's not resolved until shortly before the show. But talking about it now is always a good thing. I hope that we can get a great solution well in advance so I won't have to worry about it later.

The Dutch house in my town has a hall that can had about 100-ish people. It's not that far from boardman, maybe 20-miles. I can look if you guys want.

With regards to the "formal" dinner, I say we should do it on Friday night.  Lets save Saturday for the Chili's show, fast food, and mabye.... Go Karts!

I think some of us wouldn't mind leaving the car show early, just to go set something up. I LOVE cars, but after awhile, except for our cars, I tend to get a little bored. I wouldn't mind volunteering for something like that at all, and I know my sweetheart wouldn't mind either.

I like johnnycougars idea.

Friday night formal dinner. Meet and greet. Plus doing the cruise to there. Then hang at the hotel @ night
Saturday Picnic at park, Chili's Car Show then maybe Fast Food of your choice and/or Go karts (to achieve the need of driving wrecklessly) then more hotel action
Sunday wrap it all up

I had no problems at all with this year's events. Except for the rain, which couldn't be planned aorund.  Maybe, perhaps, we make alternate plans in case of rain?  Then again, I'm fine with wandering around the mall, too.

Can't forget, I was probably at the only table that managed to get my food in a reasonable time.
