How frequently do MAP sensors go bad?

Engine: 5.0

I recently changed the upper/lower intakes, and afterward the car would stall while stopped/in park. I pulled a code 22, so I guess it's the MAP sensor, which I didn't touch (I think?)

Anyways, how often do these things go bad? Should I just go out and buy another one, or could something else be causing the code?

Also, to double check, I attached the vacuum line from the MAP sensor to the middle of the under side of the upper intake (opposite the vacuum line that runs to the charcoal canister (?) in the front.) I think this is right?

MAP failures aren't too common, but pretty straightforward to check.

The only downside is you need some kind of tool to measure the frequency. My Fluke 111 does the trick for me.

Just to be on the safe side, I'd make sure the MAP vacuum line is seeing full engine vacuum...to eliminate any routing issues.

Thanks for the replies guys. Since the Cougar isn't going to make the trek to Cat Jam, I'll be able to tackle this problem in a more relaxed fashion. I don't have anything that can measure frequency, so I guess I'll start with the vacuum lines and assume the MAP is operating normally. These MAP sensors cost almost 100 bucks, so let's hope that I just pulled a bonehead move somewhere! Thanks again guys.

My 18 year old MAP sensor works fine. I'd check the vac lines before buying a new sensor.
88 Thunderbird LX: 306, Edelbrock Performer heads, Comp 266HR cam, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, bunch of other stuff.

Pocket part at the J/Y...

They are all the same for a EEC-IV system... LSC Lincoln, 4cyl Stang, 5.0 Bird, no difference...

Jeremy... Cool on the Fluke, guess it's time to get a new meter...

I stand corrected, but looks like most of the EFI/SEFI '87-'89 units interchange which are the ones I have on hand.

Just what does the TSB say about the BAPs????
