a/c schrader valve guts

I have converted my a/c over to R134A yesterday but the guts in the connections are leaking/bubbling. Are the guts the same as a tire valve stem or are they different?

I put 2 12oz cans and stopped because the gauge that came in the kit showed that I was in the correct level. Today on the way home from work, the a/c didn't work very well. It blew cold and then changed to warm air and back and forth. I think that I need to add more. I didn't use a vacuum pump to evacuate the system because I don't have access to one.

When I changed mine over in my Bird I didnt have access to a pump either.  But there should be a needle valve just like the one on a tire inside one of the connectors that you can just push in and vent the R12.  Dont do that in front anybody that works for the Department of Environmental Quality though, and dont breath it.

The schrader valves used in tires have a different gasket surface than refrigerant schrader valves.

I'll save my comments about half-assing A/C work for another  day.

you can get them at just about any parts store not to bad on price. If you didn't vac the system all the old oil and  is in there. The old oil isn't suposed to mix with the R134.

I'm no A/C expert (far from it), but mixing R12 and R134 sounds like bad news to me?

I should have reworded my post before posting. My car has been converted to R134A for a couple years. I sorry that I didn't say this from the start. I had replaced the high side fitting with a better fitting than the adapter type fittings that comes in the conversion kits. The low side fitting was one of the better fitting from when I had originally converted but it is leaking/bubbling at the guts.

The o-ring is most likely shot. There are different kinds of low-side and high-side adapters. Some require you to remove the R-12 schrader valve...some don't. Do yours?

Yes mine required me to remove the r-12 schrader guts.

Assuming your R-134a port has a std. schrader valve, you can use a tool such as this to remove/replace the valve w/o discharging all the refrigerant. If this doesn't fix the problem...you'll have to replace the o-ring, possibly the fitting too. That would necessitate discharging the system.
