Leaky Injector???

Ok, TCR is gone, got hauled off yesterday, now I can focus on the 87 TC. I ran KOEO codes and got TPS out of range, haven't fixed it yet because my Multimeter hasn't showed up yet. But other than that the car seems to run fine.

I've got some idle problems, but I'm sure they are related to the TPS, so I'll wait until I fix that before posting.

But when I shut the engine down (even long afterwards) I consistently hear a faint *pssssh* sound from the intake. It comes and goes every few seconds or so and I'm thinking it is an injector leaking. Would this be a likely assumption? I don't have a fuel pressure gauge (sold it in the part out doh!) so I can't check the pressure yet. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If a injector is leaking it would likely be hard to start when hot(flooded cylinder ~~and no/low fuel pressure). If it's starting normally, they're probably OK...~~

I wouldn't say it's hard... but it is easier to start when it's cold. What else could make that noise?

I would say your diagnosis is correct because that is how I found 3 leaking injectors on my Towncar--each over time. Other clues are:

A gassy/oily smell emanating from the hood area after vehicle has been parked in a somewhat air tight garage for 1/4 hour.

Look under the air intake with a flashlight after parking, you might see the offending injector with a wet base and wet area around it.

Last year I took the air intake off and redid all 8 injectors. The o ring kit with new pintle caps is relatively cheap. Likewise there was an injector repair thread which showed how to remove and replace the internal injector fuel screens. Wish I had seen that before I did the work. No problems since. Leaking injectors, of course, are a fire hazard. My greatest fear then?---someone in another car at a traffic stop adajcent lane throwing out a lighted cigarette near the front of my vehicle. It doesnt take much with fuel vapors I would guess?

I fixed the TPS, now it idles worse. Actually it idles smooth for the most part but it has this mean miss that almost causes it to stall every once and a while.

Just for the record... I checked and set timing to 10*. And it idles at around 1000 rpms. Gonna do a tune-up next and get the injectors rebuilt. I also clean the IAC out, fixed a couple vacuum line holes and some other things and the car seems to run better but that miss seems to get worse and worse.

You set the timing "SPOUT out" correct?

How long did the car sit before you got it?

Yeah I set it correctly. I honestly don't know how long it sat. He said it has been for sale since DEC 05, but it looked like it's been driven quite often on the inside.

Ok, I think I may have the classic PIP/TFI prob. Plus these Bosch spark plug wires going every whicha way prolly isn't helping either. I lined them up and it ran smooth... somehow they got tangled back up again.

Guess I'll run codes as soon as I replace the CEL bulb that conveniently blew out.
