?'s on the stock computer.

My car is an 83 Heritage 302 T-Bird with I beleive the CFI injection.  and I want to put a cam and intake and carb on it.  What else will I have to change.  Better yet what does that computer really do.  I know that I have to get a fuel regulator because of the carb.  I also want to put an MSD 6A that I have laying around in it.  Please help me out and give me some feedback.  Thank You.

The computer operates the CFI fuel injection, AFIK thats all it does... There are no parts to upgrade the EEC-III system... A carb or later system would be your choices..

The EEC-III also controls the ignition. Does the MSD 6a replace more than the ignition module? If not you will need a distributor. Your current distributor has no stator or PIP pick-up in it. The EEC-III uses a crankshaft position sensor.
The EEC may also control the fuel pump, not sure though.

I was pretty sure that it ran the py CFI and I do beleive fuel also.  It's nice to get a second opinion that kind of stuff.  I thank you all for your input.  Things to buy- Distributor, Intake, Carb.  And wire up the pump to a switch or keyed source and a regulator.  Thanks again for everything.

When I said the fuel injection, that includes the electric pump as it is part of the total package...

Yeah, so I can run wires to the pump and hook them up or buy a holley blue pump and run braided line all the way up to the regulator and so forth.

leave the EEC, it will provide power to the fuel pump for you , then add your regulator as required in the engine bay.

Next up, i would use a points distributor and your existing coil.

The EECIII system and knowledge about it is very hard to come by,, here is a link to someone else asking questions as well,,,,,,,http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-243403-1982%20EEC%20III%20loses%20spark
might help you get going.  Google EECIII

think that would be it, sorry if i missed anything.  Careful on the size carb,, not too big now:D

I'm not real knowledgeable about the III system, but Im fairly sure without the sensor inputs(specifically the Crankshaft sensor)the fuel pump circuit won't operate.
