it has begun...

took a few hours today and stripped most of the interior outta the t-bird. i could not believe how much weight is stuck on the back of the carpeting! pulled all that off. no scale, but it had to be nearly 40lbs.
also ran into my first hiccup(im sure there will be many many along the way...) fittin the main hoop of my 6pt bar.

fun fact, as seen in the last pic above: ford changed the shape of the floor pan from 83-86 to 87-88. they dropped the center of the rear passenger floor pan about 1" i would ASSuME to increase legroom. the outter edge is the same, jus the center is dropped. at this point i think i will pie cut the floor pan and lay it all flat with a BFH under the main hoop foot pads to make this thing fit.

wonder how well the door and c-pillar bars are[not] gonna line up.:giggle:

The padding weighs about 30 lbs, just the part attached to the carpet, there is lots more hiding in other places.

That floorpan drop was on the 83-86's as well.  The plates I made for my cage (6x6) have an angled offset in them.

You might be better off to build the floor up or cut through it and tie the base plate into a brace between the SFC's and jacking rails.

interesting. i  mis-read my application. it does include the 87-88's. i thought it read 83-86, it actually does read 83-88....still doesnt change the way it fits. :nono:

cuttin thru the floor under the pads is a thought. since im plannin on 2x3 thru-floor subs and 1x1 jackin rails, i could run a brace between them and tie the feet of the main hoop into that.

If this was the old KB Tbird cage.....I worked with what I had to work with ;)  I think when I did the prototype in the ex's 83, I wound up just pushing the floorpan up to meet the cage plate.  Actually that's kind of how it worked out on the Mustangs too if I remember correctly.

Mine is tied in that way as well...I ran a brace between the SFCs and jacking rails at the main hoop and door bar plates....hella stiff.

it is, and i thought you would have been involved. :hick: the one fox install i did, i had to lift the floor pan to meet the pads, but it didnt have the high crowned drop center like this floor pan. i dont think i would like the way this floor pan would fold up to meet the pads if i jus floor jacked it like that fox...
ive got a plan in my head now. jus gotta get some steel to fit the SFC's and jackin rails, then i can build bracin and get to the rest of this install.

Would you be interested in some C-pilar bars that go over the back seat through the rear deck?  I still have my old ones that were in my silver car before I redid the cage as a weld-in.  You might have to relocate your c-pilar spuds (my cage wasn't based on the "Street Cage"), but it will allow you to get down to the floorpan/frame in the trunk instead of the wheel wells...

EDIT- N/M.  I see that yours is already powder-coated...you won't want to mess that all up.

for now, im jus gonna run with whats here. i do plan on at least changin the c-pillar bars later on. im not a huge fan of cage pick-ups on wheel houses....its nice for packagin a production piece, but for a one off of my own therare better solutions.
if you are jus gonna toss em out, ill take em. might be able to make good use of em down the road.

Well they are just sitting in the garage for now, so they aren't going any where.  If you want them just say so.
