No bluffing.
He drag races on the side and builds his own cars in his garage. His father has been an engine builder for nearly his entire life and did the motor on this car. He's plenty capable of yanking everything out of it himself.

He said he wants $500 for the engine and transmission and when considering how much it costs to rebuild those, that's not that bad of a price. He didn't feel the car was worth selling whole so he was going to junk it. He's remaining strong on $500 firm so I'm sure there's no talking him down in price. He has just had enough of the car and wants it gone but he feels his work in the drivetrain is worth this amount and will accept nothing less.

I really don't think he would get that many "nibbles" for a SO 5.0 if he tried to sell it out of the car. Atleast I don't know of anyone looking for one.

He knows I'm into Cougars but not to what extent. He's seen my car on several occasions and we've talked before. Since I do like the cars, he offered the entire thing to me for the price he wants for the engine and tranny. I'm sure he would rather go this route since it will be less work for him.

So as of right now, he is holding the car for me. I'm going to look at it better when I can in a couple weekends.

Wow...
That just amazes me. An '86 GS with crank windows, manual locks, no pass. mirror, no rear defroster, and a 5.0. Did the car come with a 5.0?
It may very well be worth restoring.

Sounds like my 86 gs to a tee. It didnt start off black but it is now....

I say you c00ch it up. Worse case, you get a good parts car. And if it runs, you can always sell it for $500. Maybe to one of us. It is a rare optioned car. Never seen another one other then mine. Hand crank is the shiznit!

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Cool, so yours is stripped too.
This one wasn't originally black either. It was red (don't know which shade specifically) but was repainted last year. Who knows maybe these two are the only few left in existence.

Well guys, I think I'm going for it. I'm really digging the 4-eyes. I'm going to look over it again but just like Chuck said, it isn't really too much work other than paint. I'm sure I can patch the flaws and make it presentable.

So who knows, maybe you all will see me in this thing at Cat Jam...

So if you told him to keep the engine and transmission, he'd give you the rest of the car for free ... ? ;)

:rollin:

Well, I talked to him again. He said that the rear is not bent and the drivetrain is sound. He convinced his daughter that the rear was bent so he could get the car away from her.

I'm picking it up next weekend :D

Nice. Stripped cars rule. Its less shiznit you have to pull out if you make it fast or want to modify the interior. Take some not rain pictures when you get a chance. I will be watching this one.

So, quick question, Your car wouldnt happen to have 10" rear drums, and no traction lock or quad shocks, would it?

You'd love my car. I have every electrical option except the sun roof. You want to talk about a lot of things that can break.....

Okay, its lighter and that makes it faster. When all is said and done, its still a v-8.
