Heater core bypassing? June 25, 2006, 02:28:28 AM Just wondering if anyone has tried to bypass the heater core. I know it can be done easily. But has anyone done it to see if there is any side effects. I know most cars and trucks do have a bypass valve in them but just wondering if for some reason our cars didn't? I was also thinking that maybe it would help keep the car a little cooler inside in the hot summer days. I've got A/c but do you think that the heater core being in there all hot is hurting the A/c performance any? I know the little flapper is in there to seal the heat core off from the rest of the box but does anyone think it would help to bypass the core in the summer time? Quote Selected
Heater core bypassing? Reply #1 – June 25, 2006, 02:53:29 AM I can't think of any way it would help, but it would greatly increase your chances of damaging your heater core by pulling the hoses off and then putting them back on later. I would think it would also increase the likelihood of your core getting plugged. Quote Selected

Heater core bypassing? Reply #3 – June 25, 2006, 08:04:35 AM if yours has no leaks then cut the drivers side hose then install an inline cut off valve. I see what you are saying about the radiant heat thing as well. there is a restrictor somewhere in the heater core routing either in your core nipple,, the hose or the factor metal tube for presure reasons. Heater core bypassing? Reply #4 – June 25, 2006, 10:16:53 AM I bypassed mine last December for about a week until I had time to swap in a new core. No side effects other than freezing my ass off on the way to and from work. Quote Selected
Heater core bypassing? Reply #5 – June 25, 2006, 10:28:24 AM Thanks guys. I was thinking of putting a bypass vavle in there. one that is manually operated. That way I could bypass it in the summer but still be able to turn it on any time just open the hood and flip the switch. Quote Selected
