Clutch kit Q's

Does anyone here have any personal experience with Ford's King Cobra clutch kits? Since the description I read said that the kit has  low pedal effort, and since I'm not going to be building up alot of HP and torque, I was thinking about this set-up for my 5.0/T5 combo.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

it will work fine;)  it's good up to about 350HP..
i had it in my car untill i rebuilt my engine.. which i replaced it with a spec stage 2 clutch and a spec aluminum flywheel .. and it was still in good shape.. and my first engine was supercharged allso..

any other questions?

Thanks Nick! Actually, I do have another Q. How is the pedal feel? Whatever clutch is in the 'stang parts car I have (that's the one I'm getting the 5.0/t5 out of) the pedal feel is pretty heavy.

pedal feel is great, not hard at all compaired to most other kits. iv driven some of my friends cars with spec clutches or even the pep-boys special ones and their hard as rocks compaired to this. one of my friends complaines about his pep boys clutch because his leg is killing him while in city traffic, but im always fine.

Me being used to the TC hydrolic clutch, i feel that the pedal is a bit heavy, but its not unbearable by any means.
It's Gumby's fault.

I hated this clutch on my buddy's Stang. Pedal effort was REALLY hard. Adjusting the release point was futile because it always changed back to the way it was. Even broke a t/o bearing, split it in half. After just about giving up on his drivetrain ever being civilized (replaced the t/o bearing retainer several times and the King Cobra w/another) he changed the clutch to a Centerforce I and he "claims" the pedal effort drastically reduced. I refuse to believe this until I drive the car myself.

i have not put a ton of miles on the one i put in the tbird but the KK feels great in that. i dont realy have anything to compare it to as my ranger had the hydrolic clutch. my mustang has the same KK as well. i like it.

the king cobra should have a soft pedal feel if it dos'nt then the clutch cable might be worn.. "not broke lol" just worn.. what happens some times is the cable it self digs into the outer housing and binds up..

Thanks for all the input guys!

With adjustable cables and firewall adjusters, can you use both, or is it one or the other?

Also, once you have the clutch and cable setups installed, how do you get the clutch setup and adjusted? Haven't had any experience  with working on manual trannies yet, so I'm in the dark here.:D

you can use both..

the problem is finding an ajustable cable that last more then 6 months too a year. most are not made as good as the stock cable.. i had a jegs ajustable cable and firewall ajuster and the cable took a dump after 3 months..the problem was that the case of the cable colapsed..it stated to cruch at the top of the cable..which made it useless..so now i have a stock style cable with the firewall ajuster and so far so good..

nick, did you use the mustang vac booster to fit the firewall adjuster? i think thats what bob and bill ended up doing, think i will too soon, my adjustable cable has lasted me over a year tho with the king cobra clutch, but climbing under a lowered car to adjust it sucks.

Still have some questions though....

When buying a new flywheel, how do I know what oz. balance to get?
One flywheel I was looking at for 86-95 5.0 157 tooth showed part nos. for 0 oz., 28 oz., and 50 oz. balances. (Too many options to figure out:yuck: :giggle: )

Also, what are the basic methods for setting the clutch up with a new clutch and cable install?

50oz.. 28oz is for old 302's and 351's..0"zero"is i think for pot smokers.. ;)

now as far as installing the clutch you just need a clutch anignment tool.. and for the cable the rubber plug next to the brake booster is where the clutch cable goes..if you did'nt allready run you stereo amp cables and or you gauge lines threw it.. next to the hole tord the booster you will see a dimple thats where the screw goes to hold  the cable to the firewall..

I think the 300 I6 uses the 0 oz. one.. and I've run across the occasional mention of internally-balanced stuff that used the 0 oz.
