I am trying to plan out this install. I ordered the digital oil, temp, and volt gauges. I know I need 12v power, ground, sensor wire, and the purple goes to ????. Where should I hook that up at? I want to run all new wiring seperate from the main harnass so that it will be easy to troubleshoot if there is ever a problem. gauge install Reply #1 – June 13, 2006, 11:24:32 PM Well if you're looking to run something totally separate, you have a couple choices.When I did my center console gauges, I wanted to run an independent power source for them. So what I did was ran them through a relay. For the power wire I ran it straight off the battery and through the relay, and then the switched wire I spliced into the parking light (one of the inside lights on the front) and ran that across the relay. I split it into 3 separate wires in the dash since the tiny light bulbs in the gauges don't pull much current anyway. That way the gauges come on when I switch on the parking lights, and it's not pulling a bunch of extra current through the headlight switch.You could do something like this except run the headlight switch wiring across the relay...I figured this way was the easiest and safest way to do it. gauge install Reply #3 – June 14, 2006, 09:09:59 AM The light source wire would be light blue/red stripe. What cluster was originally in the car? If it was the base cluster (digital speedo, buttstuffog fuel/temp gauge) then there are two light blue/red wires, one in each harness. You can use either one (or both) for your sources for the new gauges. Quote Selected

So I could use the wire you mentioned then. I guess the thing that was tripping me up was that I though a digital gauge was on all the time the same, night or day. gauge install Reply #5 – June 17, 2006, 01:21:13 AM yes they dim down when you turn on your lights. otherwise at night they are bright as **it!!! i used all the wiring from the factory it just works out better that way if you need any stuff like that i still have all the paperwork so i can tell you whatever!
