window motor detached from window?

on the car in my sig, the passenger side window has evidently become detached from its motor/or a lever or something/whatever the heck is in there! i went to open it and the front of it started to go down and the rear didnt, and it wouldnt move then i went to move it back up and then back down and i heard something peel off i think or something like that and now the motor just runs and the window doesnt move. i once tried to remove the driver door trim to inspect the keyless entry because it was pushed in, ended up getting it replaced for $250. the haynes maunal we have doesnt give me much help with this. i think i actually broke a couple of the black plastic "pins" or whatever you call em that have the "spikes" in the side that it goes into a hole and they flare out when you try to pull it out so that's how it holds itself in. thats the best i can describe it. that and in once case the cardboard or whatever backing of the trim ripped because the pin pulled out of it. i got scared and put it back together. i have a tool of my dad's thats like this http://www.northerntool.com/images/product/images/1255146_lg.gif but without a long handle and it worked for some of them, but the trim was attached in other places and i had no idea how to get it off.
 
first does anyone know what's happened to the window? can i repair it? can i get the interior stuff off the door to access it all? can someone provide a detailed explanation on how to do it?

It's a common problem with these cars: A pair of plastic clips are glued to the glass and bolted to the window regulator. The glue gets old and they come apart. There are several methods of fixing it (actually they're all the same, but different adhesives are used). I used clear silicone to repair mine. Here's a thread on the subject:

Just this past weekend I had someone confirm for me what I'd thought would work: Gorilla Glue. Seems to me that's the ultimate over-the-counter answer for this problem.

Used jb weld to fix mine,has worked for the last year.
Tried silicone,only worked for a few months.

okay sounds good! ive heard of gorilla glue before, seemed pretty nice.
 
but the door trim panel--after ive removed all the screws from the speaker and under the long vinyl piece behind the door-opener handle and everywhere else, should the whole thing come off with just removing those black pin things around the perimeter?

iv  used 3 different ab compound epoxies and they all last around a year... silicone only lasted like 6 months, mine recently came off AGAIN... so maybe i'll try the gorilla glue now. i only wish i could put a hole through the glass so i can use a dowl in their to perminatly solve the problem.

and incase you were wondering, my window track is clear, fist thing i check every time it comes off. think i might need some window track lube tho... love the lube

Eric, I just redid my passenger window with silicone (the last time lasted a little over 2 years).  Did that person just do the Gorilla glue or has it been on for a while?

Paul, it was Jason from this past weekend @Carlisle...I don't know if you talked to him or not. It's been over 2 years on his T-Bird with no problems at all.

2 years huh?  Sounds good to me, think I'll try it next time.  Interestingly enough, my driver side window hasn't come off yet.  What did the factory use?

When I did mine it looked to me like the factory used clear silicone (at least that's what it felt like when sing the stuff off the glass). I first tried "Goop" but it only lasted a few days. The clear silicone has been holding since October, but I'm not driving the car regularly either. Next time it comes off I'll gove Gorilla glue a shot...

I wonder what a glass shop would charge, and if it's even possible, to drill holes in the glass? I know regular glass can be drilled, but tempered glass is, well, tempermental...

I'm sure that whomever made the glass (L-O-F ?) also glued the clips on for easier assembly. So it's probably the same stuff that glass shops use.

If you've ever seen the 1983-86 windows they have a section that dips down at the bottom, with clips pop-riveted right through the glass in that area. And that is why you never see this problem with the older cars. The design was much, much better. I would guess that this happens with 1987-88 cars because Ford redesigned the doors for flush glass, pushing the glass about 1/2" outward, and it's possible that the older glass setup didn't have enough clearance (although to me it looks like there was room for it). One of these days I'll take pix of both to show the differences.

Both my windows are off.  I went to a glass shop here in MD, and they said they would have to replace both glasses at a tune of 250 a piece.  I bought some gorilla glue, and plan on using that.  I was aslso told that Ford used the plastic clips, and they had complaints about the same thing.  in an other year they had used some kind of metal clips to keep the window in place.  I cant remember for the life of me what years the metals ones were used in, but every time i go to a bone yard i pull off the panels and peek. no luck yet

Hello!
Just a little refresh of this old thread. Drivers side window jumped out off one of the clips again. I used black windshield glue and it lasted 9 months. Now I'm gonna use Gorilla Glue I found on eBay, but I'm kinda worried that the clip will be so messed up with that black glue and it will be a hell to remove that old glue. I was just wondering if passenger side window clips are the same as drivers side one? I'm asking becouse I have two spare pass side windows with clips still on them, and left side with broken clips.
I was also wondering if it's possible to put the window in the door with the clips already glued on it.
I also heard that I can adjust the window play with a bolt holding window channel somewhere?? My driver side window is rattling when it's full down.

I tried the gorilla glue and it didn't hold for me. I ended up sanding the glass bottom with emory cloth so the clear silicon could get a grip on things. Been working for over 2 yrs on the drivers side, and 1 yr on the pass side,I also drilled holes thru the nylon clips, because that is where the glue was failing.

Yeah, and I always seem to ruin mine, so I've been getting some replacement door panel clips from a local little hardware store.
They work great, until I gotta pull the panel off again.
