Electrical Guru's June 04, 2006, 02:51:03 AM Some questions for those of you that have been down this road before...I have built an aluminum head carbed engine to replace the existing 5.0 SO that is in my 87 bird now, my questions are... 1) the car has an electronic climate control, will this be effected in any way without having the computer in the car any longer. I have read that the AC has computer/issues under WOT, will i lose the air conditioning and need to get an AC delete kit? If so what kit recomendations do you guys have. 2) Full digital cluster? I assume not to much other than the speedo/tach and the fuel gauge will work if at all. I do have an anolog cluster from an 88 sport if i need to just dont really want to. 3) the car is a FULLY optioned car... is there any other electrical info/help/warning that i should be aware of before i open this can of worms. It sure would be nice to retain every feature/option the car has with 350 hp carbed engine. actually one more quick question...when did they first start to use the roller blocks in the t-birds? Thanks in advance guys. Quote Selected
Electrical Guru's Reply #1 – June 04, 2006, 08:14:10 AM In reverse order '86 was first roller blocks(basically the SEFI 5.0s)Other than the trip minder and a/c cutout, I can't think of anything that is controlled by the EEC... Trip minder will be gone, but the A/C ain't a big deal. Just have to jump out the cutout relay and be sure to reinstall the temp sensor in the heater line near the core(thats for basic climate controll heater oper). The temp and oil pressure are operated by senders on the engine, just reinstall...Getting a correct TV cable for the tranny will be an absoulte must, if you want it to last past the first trip around the block. Also the stock AOD ain't gonna much like 350HP... My low milage Super Coupe AOD struggled till I installed the Trans-Go shift kit... Quote Selected
Electrical Guru's Reply #2 – June 04, 2006, 09:36:11 AM Why go carb,it's 2006 man, carb's(and i know them)are almost all but ancient technology now. It's super easy to go injected 5.0L in your car and fairly cheap as well.Just get all the cheap stock 5.0HO injection parts, all the wiring is the same and just change the ecm.
