Site will be going down soon, EVERYONE READ

Ok, here's the deal. XLInternet, the people that are hosting this site, have gone tits up. I received an email this morning saying that everything must be removed from their servers within 72 hours. Naturally, this is not a whole lot of notice, but given XLInternet's past performance I'm surprised they gave any notice at all.

I have already purchased space at GoDaddy, and have initiated the transfer of this domain name. I'm also working with Eric and Alex to get everything transferred over (hopefully there will be no Cougarnuts-esque loss of data). The problem is that this may take more than 72 hours - even the domain tranfer can take as much as five business days.  For that reason we will very likely have a blackout of a few days.  I do not know exactly when XL will flick the switch, but it could be any moment. When you come to this site and see "this page cannot be displayed" you'll know they've pulled the plug.

That's the bad news. The good news is that GoDaddy should be a much faster, more reliable host, and you can be assured we'll be back.

You've been warned. Blackout ahead. Commence looting

Once the swap has been completed will the site have the same name or will it be something totally different?

Carm, normal propogation for a domain name is 48-72 hours...usually within 48 though. We'll be alright. Hosts just tell you up to 5 days in case one of the major backbones for the Internet goes out. Basically it only takes 24-48 hours for all the domain servers in the world to note the change to your domain's IP address, then everyone can access it equally.

There shouldn't be much of a problem transferring the site. Alex did my site quickly because, well, he's the man. We'll keep everyone updated here.

Once we're on the new host, the domain will be the same, board will look the same, even the login info should work the same. Except things will be much, much quicker. :)

The site always went down here for short periods anyway.  Also that one time for almost a week.  Can't be much worse than that.

Yep and when the site returns it'll be on a new and faster host. So a little downtime is a small price to pay for overall better results

How about broadcast e-mail the ip address to all registered users? Provided that all the users have entered their e-mail address in thier profile and have "Receive Email from Administrators" checked in thier options. That way the regular users will have access while the rest of the WWW waits for the DNS to catch up. Just a thought...I'll have withdraw symptoms if I have to wait 72 hours to get back here. :)

We could always use the old site as a kinda backup. Use it to let everyone know what is going on. But for the life of me I can't seem to find the address.
