I start my first job today Reply #7 – May 07, 2006, 05:59:53 PM It wasnt too bad; I was assigned to work in the kitchen today. I was the lucky one to take the dishes out of the dish washer (HOOOOOOOOOOOOOT). And I managed to break a couple of bowls, but other than that, I had a productive day. I'm only working weekends, so at least it isn't every day or anything. One guy there has been working there for 13 years! I couldn't do that. When I turn 18, I plan on finding a nicer job, but for now, I'll be getting money in my pocket and I'll have something to show when I fill out applications. Gotta start somewhere. Quote Selected
I start my first job today Reply #8 – May 07, 2006, 06:26:31 PM Quote from: kingcars Gotta start somewhere.Exactly. My first job was working in an office 9-5 during the summer. I made $8.50 an hour and lived 3 miles away. A tank of gas would last easily for weeks. Money was great, I blew it all though. New 36" tv, loads of cds and car stuff. As much as I liked the money, I didn't enjoy the job. It was too hectic and I didn't even have a minute of downtime. Well, 1/2 hour for lunch but that was it. I was 17 as well. Now I'm 21 and work in a computer room where I sit on my arse doing practically nothing and getting paid well to do it.:D Quote Selected
I start my first job today Reply #9 – May 07, 2006, 06:30:32 PM Wow, $8.50 an hour for your first job? That's unheard of here. I'd take office work over working in the kitchen though, so it seems to me like you got a really nice start. (I also live REALLY close to my work) I doubt I'll have any downtime at this job as well. I start my first job today Reply #10 – May 07, 2006, 06:34:17 PM Yep, it payed off that my sister worked for the same company around that time. She's 10 years older than me and had been there a couple years. She was in a different office though so it was cool for me to work for the company. Quote Selected
I start my first job today Reply #11 – May 07, 2006, 06:44:42 PM It seems that for a teenager like myself to get a job, 1 of 2 things needs to happen:1) Talk to the manager (which is how my friend Morgan and I got our jobs)2) Family member or good friend that can get you a job where they work (which is how my sister and my friend Nick got their first jobs)Just regular filling-out-applications doesnt work for someone trying to get their first job. I've been filling out applications for about a year now. I won't have to again for a while, and when I do, I'll actually be 18 and have some experience to back me up. Quote Selected
I start my first job today Reply #12 – May 07, 2006, 06:59:05 PM some good advice, dont be afraid to ask for help. it shows you somewhat care and bosses like that. also, dont be so afraid of screwing up that you wont try again. everyone must learn sometime. Quote Selected

Go when you know it wont be too busy (early morning) and ask to speak to them, so what if you gotta stand around for 5 mins waiting it significantly increases your chances of getting hired... unless of course your just an dumbass :p Quote Selected
