I dont know how it passed but its prally thanks to my exhaust leaks the guy didnt hear/care about. pass. header isnt sealing all the way, and both lers aint sealed to the tailpipes. 2.5" lers, 2.25" tailpipes so a clamp will only seal it so far haha.

HC:
State - 1.4000 GPM
Car - 0.0755 GPM

CO:
State - 30.0000
Car - 0.3774 GPM

NOx
State - 2.500
Car - 0.0778

Now for the cool modding of things to begin...

T5 Ready to go in minus couple odds an ends
Headers back exhaust
and if funding allows H/C/I just using gt40 heads, U/L and maybe a alphabet cam.
A/C delete and smog delete, Front sway bar going byebye and some weight loss

Man, those numbers are so low maybe you can help me do my exhaust next time. With the new engine in mine I had:

HC: .32
CO:1.13
NO: 1.28

I can't believe they are regulating custom built motor cycles now too.

I find it very hard to believe that out of all the motors on wheels out there, that the guys who do their own builds are anywhere close to being a major contributor to the cause of the smog.

These laws punish people who have any interest in being beyond just a consumer and actually desire to learn/improve how things work.

I, just last week pulled....
HC - 1.9 fail 6 tenths from passing:mad:
CO - 7.46 pass
NO- 2.1 pass

Now that was with a sniffer only on one exhaust pipe. Apparently the woman running the test was too stupid to notice my car has dual exhaust.

I go back May 31st :(

it dont matter dual or single. most likely they just put cougar 88 and it says it's on the driver side. anything else to them is add on. but on my stang they only check one. bc both sides should read the same.

I've had my Cougar for 2 years now and haven't been called in for MD emissions yet (knock on wood)...

I'm hoping that 1. I squeek by until 2008, and 2. Ford does not resurrect the Cougar model line (sorry everybody!) so that I can be eligible for "Historic" status.

They had a hell of time with my tailpipes, they are basically right at the bumper, Didnt think they could get the sniffers on it but they did. I even took it up there with my skinnies and they never said a word like I was hoping them to lol. With my rear sitting low, next time Ill throw on my traction bars and say I cant get on the rollers :D

Then why did they put the sniffer on the pass side? ;)

As far as I know in MD, it is up to the person running the test to check your exhaust and if they see duals, they put two sniffers on it. In other words, they go by what is infront of them, not what is on the computer.

It just so happens this girl didn't notice I had duals or didn't think it mattered. A couple months ago I had it tested by the same girl and she put it on the driver's side but not on the pass. Before that, there was a guy working there who put both on. Believe me, I've been through this enough. I've had 6 tests in the past year and a half and all but twice they put both sniffers on.

They always put sniffers on both of my cars pipes. I passed on the first try with my custom exhaust. I have one cat on each side and no crossover.

This is the reason why I like living in North Dakota. They DON'T care. IF they did there would be a lot of cars off the road up here!

Almost forgot about this thread.

To answer your questino Bane, I believe it's my lack of cataytic converters. That's the only logical thing I can think of that's keeping me from passing. The air pump is half disconnected as well.

The only other possibilities I can think of are
1 transmission... The AOD is heading south and not coming back. I can't even climb a hill now in OD and get it to kick into passing without giving me a fit. It slips bad when it's cold and so forth. I only drive the car around in D but when it's tested, they put it in OD and I can hear it act up while it's on the mill. This last test where I almost passed, I had them run it in D and my emissions came down considerably. Sound really echoed throughout the building which was pretty cool, lol.

2 lers... When I had them put on the car over 4 years ago, the ler shop told me the car wouldn't pass with them. I don't see how a set of Flowmaster lers would do this but I won't rule them out completely.

All I know is this...
This state annoys me to no end about this emissions bs but I'm not even going to go into that now. Except to tell xr7cat that MD is the same way in that they don't care. However, they keep the cars on the road because its a way for revenue. They really don't care about the emissions as far as the environment is concerned. The only time I ever got a threatening notice that my registration would be cancelled was when I missed my "test by" date and they didn't get their precious money. My car could be blowing smoke like nobodys business and if they got their money, I'd be fine. See I said I wasn't going to go into that :( So...

Tags expire Sept. '07
I can qualify for historics Jan '08 (since the car will be 20 years old and mercury no longer makes the cougar)
So it's going to sit for 3 months and then goodbye emissions and hello el cheapo registration.

Didn't mean to be mean. I don't even know if there is a testing center in ND. I also thought that if it didn't pass you couldn't drive it till it was fixed?

I get pretty frustrated with this state and their stuff, its nothing personal against you.

Some states may operate like this but MD doesn't. Here they say they require you to get it fixed but as long as the car comes in by its due date and you pay your fee, your golden. I haven't done a thing to my car in well over a year and they never question me. I don't drive it every day and I really can't afford messing with it in hopes it passes emissions. So I just rant and rave like a lunatic.

I was referring to the part in your post where you said ND doesn't care about emissions or cars would be off the road. MD doesn't care either but they don't take the cars off the road for failing. You just take it back and get another test and pay the fee which proves that it is all about money in this state. I think emission standards are fine but I feel MD is involved for the wrong reasons. That's why I'm so touchy on this.
