May 01, 2006, 09:13:28 PM anybody else hear have that mix in their car for a full tank yet? myself and a few friends all had it run through resently and it burned alot faster than usual,.. meaning instead of getting 230 miles to a tank, getting 150. i wouldnt care as much if the cost was 1.50 a gal, but its over 3... Wawa is the only place I've seen that has posted the change....asking..."Can your boat run on an Ethanol blend?".....who cares about the boat...what about our cars!?!? My Cavalier is doing ok with it. But today an 87 Town Car came in with a shutter under accel problem. I suggested a transmission problem, but a co-worker pointed out it had a misfire. It didn't dawn on me until now that it might be the gas screwing with the engine. We performed a couple various things, like a tune-up and corrected the firing-order issue the customer had created, but still ran horrible.Hmmmm.....I'll have to run this idea by the bosses. Come to think of it, we use a mix of gas/alky in all our farm stuff, except the diesels...it varys from 10 to sometimes 35-40% alcohol....The new gas is not really "new" at all, they're just not putting that MTBE stuff in it anymore, ethanol gas has been around for well over 10 years.Some vehicles have been documented to use e85 w/o any bad effects, some won't tolerate any more than 15% ethanol....Last summer I dumped about 5 gallons of pure ethanol in my gas tank on my truck, only result was I made it about a mile, and the truck died, had to pump the tank out, and replace the fuel filter, cause of the water the stuff has absorbed. Didn't help any that it had sat in a metal (think not vapor tight), and had gotten "wet"Other than that, the truck runs great, or as great as a 230,000 mile 5.0 with a coula bolt-ons will run...;) Quote Selected

Reply #12 – May 04, 2006, 07:08:30 AM i was talking about that 10% ... im going to see how the hyundia likes it, it was at 350miles per tank with regular, in an other week or so (maybe) i'll see how many mpg that dropped. this is kinda like when they stopped putting led in gas... this sucks guess i'll have to buy gas at the track or something for my car. Reply #14 – May 04, 2006, 12:22:01 PM What's funny is my 93 Buick Century with a 3.3 V6 runs fine on 87 with the 10% ethenol but the Tbird hates the same gas, and I get the Tbird the better stuff from Mobil or BP.
