Mustang to cougar 8.8 swap? May 01, 2006, 04:20:59 PM Wanting to change the 1987 cougar rearend out to a mustang 8.8 with 3.73 gears. Is this a straight bolt in swap with shorter axles? Thanks in advancei have a 8.8 out or a mustang.. it bolts right in and use the same axle that came out of the mustang rear.. only question i have is do you have 9" or 10" rear brakes? if you have 10" stock then keep them over the mustang 9" brakes..any other questions?Nick Quote Selected

Reply #6 – May 26, 2006, 11:14:44 PM Problem here lies in the fact that the track on the stang rear is 3/4" shorter on each side.Dosen't sound like much but i seen a guy that did it and man did it look silly.If i remember correctly though there is a way to use longer axles,read a thread about it somewhere.
