Yeah Im workin on it I was just so suprised and in awe after what I did that I had to stop and admire and show it off. The process was actually pretty easy. I used 400 grit sandpaper and took all the factory coating off it stuff was peeling off anyway. After that I experimented with different things. Tried different polishes compounds and household ingredients. Not all together though.
First I used a Dremel mine has 10 speeds on it so I used the lowest speed. Took out alot of the hand buffing and such gotta make sure you keep it moving though so you dont burn it.
polishing compound turned the plastic black
I tried a polish made by Mothers for metal. It cleared it up but left a film on the light which Im guessing is what it leaves on metal to help protect it.
The mixture I finally ended up using that made it clear was believe it or not toothpaste and baking soda mixed with a little water.
After that I used a 3 part system for headlights I got off ebay. I know why didnt I just use the 3 part system and call it good since thats what its meant for.
Honestly I never could get it to make them as clear as this has it would always clear it up but nothing like what the pictures show on the ad for the stuff.
For 10 bucks plus shipping though I couldnt really complain because it did clear it up a little, just nothing like I had expected.
I basically used it as a sealer so that hopefully it wont yellow again within a few days or weeks of doing it.
That's about it not long took about 30 minutes cause of all the experimenting. The actual part when it started working took maybe 15 at most.

Yes I do use them :giggle: . I think that sunlight yellows them more than useage. It probably helps that mine sits in a garage under a cover most of the time.

ok so then you dont use them much :D see thats the problem mine are on half the time. In all honesty it prolly does have something to do with it Im in kansas and I havent seen a car yet that wasnt yellow on the lights. Considering I think our state tree is the telephone pole we have plenty of sunshine.:D

What makes it even more odd is that the car spent 14 years in California before I got it from my cousin. Must be one hell of a pair of headlights I have. Yeah I live in Chicago so it's not exactaly like we have more trees than Kansas does:giggle:

uh huh but you guys have smog and buildings we have open fields and that is weird I guess theres more to it then just the sunlight might have something to do with the stuff the spray on the roads for winter too considering they dont get much of that out there

I use Turtle Wax chrome polish on mine, does a good job of cleaning them up but they start to yellow again in a month or two, even if you apply wax. I think that's something you just can't get away from.

I live about 7 miles from downtown there aren't may tall buildings by me. As for smog it's not bad. Now the stuff they spray on the roads here in the winter is SALT, SALT, SALT, and more SALT. If there is even a chance of snow the salt trucks come out and blast the streets. Don't get much snow eh? We usually have at least three 12" or so snow storms a winter so yeah we get snow :hick:
