Need Part- "brake proportionating valve"? Reply #1 – April 20, 2006, 09:01:58 PM No that name is correct. It is the little brass thing that is mounted on your drivers side strut tower, under the master cylinder. Where are you, I have one here. I would only ask $20+shipping. Quote Selected
Need Part- "brake proportionating valve"? Reply #2 – April 20, 2006, 09:46:58 PM Not b/s. Such a thing does exist. Of course we cannot tell it your proportioning valve is broken or not. What lead you to take it to the mechanic for replacement? A broken prop. valve would cause very poor breaking performance. $20, is probably a good deal as I doubt they are avaliable new anymore from FORD. Quote Selected
BPV for 88 Cougar LS Reply #3 – April 20, 2006, 11:47:15 PM ...I took my cougar out of storage and the brake light was on. I decided to have my mechanic give it the once over, and that is what was discovered.Like I mentioned to 1Wild Bird, I'd love to invest some money into this low mileage, well kept roadster, but I am worried about not finding parts if things required to be replaced....case in point, me looking for a BPV!Who is a reliable source for parts for 88 Cougars?Newschoolr Quote Selected

Need Part- "brake proportionating valve"? Reply #11 – April 22, 2006, 08:01:57 AM I know that most parts stores won't sell that part because of the liablity involed. Your best bet would be a salvage yard. Good luck. Another thing to check is if you are low on brake fluid that brake light will come on beacuse there is a differcne in pressure between the front and rear. Quote Selected
