My tripminder isn't tripminding

i hooked up the wires like it said on coolcats.net, and i have the eec-III so i hooked the fuel flow sensor wire to the wire in the #15 wire holder spot on my computer (passenger foot well computer thingy), so i'm getting the correct speed and mileage on the tripminder from my speedo wire, but the fuel used and instant mpg don't seem right.... you'd think that when i'm going downhill at 70 mph with my foot off the gas, the number would go up, but it just stays there.... the instant mpg seems to be directly related to the speed i'm going, not how much i'm mashing the gas..... i have a trip cpu in my minivan and the instant mpg races up when i let off the gas...... so what did i do wrong? the evtm said the #15 wire was white, but the one plugged into the #15 hole (and trust me i checked 3 or 4 times) was kind of an off grey with a stripe (i don't remember the color...... could they have been mistaken which wire i needed to connect to? i could swear there wasn't even a white wire going to the eec harness.........

p.s. my tripminder came from a crown vic, but i didn't think that mattered, and the wires on the tripminder had a few different colors than the instructions at coolcats.net, but i made sure i followed the pin location directions, not the color ones
